Help with choosing the correct category

Recommended Posts

I have found an unusual 'waymark' find, which does not seem to fit within 'any' of the 1100 or so categories.

It has a Nautical reference but is shore-based.

My submission:- https://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/wm1BQTV_Nautical_Mile_Marker_Talland_Cornwall_UK

My logic suggested they were markers, flags to start and stop the run, hence why I initially submitted my waymark into the Nautical Flag category, but to date, I have had no reply, understandably.

Any suggestions on which category my waymark could fit into would be appreciated.

Thanks for highlighting, I guess as it has not been passed, the link will not work. I hope this helps.

Two of a set of four, nautical mile markers, which act as a start and finish point for a Nautical Mile. These land markers are used for ships doing sea trials, after a refit, or for other reasons. The Coordinates are for one of the Landmarks)

As the ship sails up or down the Western approach. The Landmarks are observed and when the front marker covers the rear marker, the ship is timed until reaching the other set of markers, further up the coast. When that set aligns and a time is gathered, the systems of the ship are assessed, with further runs under different conditions, speeds etc.
Online OS map shows - 2 Landmarks at Talland and 2 at Hannafore, with the text mid-way below Hendricks Farm.

Hello, I'm after some help choosing an appropriate category for this (currently) uncategorised Waymark: https://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/wm1BXJF.

It doesn't seem to fit in any of the existing Signs or Culture categories.

Thanks!

That sign seems more durable than paint on a rock, which has been accepted in the category. I hope they accept yours.

I was thinking about this category, too. But the 100 year lasting requirement made me hesitate.

Always worth reading:

What this category is:

  • A place to waymark any quote or text that was important enough to be placed in a medium to stand the test of time.
  • It would be reasonable to assume that the medium will last at least 100 years. (Mediums that the category initially considers as permanent include stone and metal (such as plaques). There certainly will be other mediums that will fit in this category, and will be evaluated on a case by case basis.)
