Meridian vs. Meridian Gold

I am looking to upgrade from my Magellan 315 to a mapping unit. Everyone is talking about the differences between the 330 and the Meridian Gold.

What about the differences between the Gold and the Meridian?

Do either have the hunt/fish feature like the 315?

From their website, http://www.magellangps.com

It has a larger base map 16mb as opposed to 2mb.

I don't know about the hunt/fish feature. I'm new to all this! icon_smile.gif

re. "hunt/fish feature" It's based on solunar tables which expound that animals are more active when the sun and moon are directly overhead or underneath [major periods] or at right angles [minor].

You'll find the Gold's basemap is roughly 3-4 times as detailed (more cities, major highways, etc.) That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to take the money saved by buying a base Meridian and put it toward MapSend Topo or Streets. You'll find that data to be far more detailed. I must say I am underwhelmed regarding the base map data contained in any mapping gps receivers. If your use is primarily backcountry or you need street level data you'll find the basemaps don't give you much.
