+PorgsTeam Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) When finding a spot to hide a new cache via the website is there a way to enable a satellite view of the map as when I created a new Geocaching walk it was really hard to find a few places to hide one as the standard map didn't show enough details when placing the caches close together? Also is there a way to create the red circles to layout the walk in advance to again maximise the placements of the caches? This would avoid any conflicts (apart from mystery caches) and save the reviewers time of having to send it back for ammendment. Just a couple of thoughts! Cheers, PorgsTeam. Maximizing the placements is not a good goal, mut when you start creating a new cache you will see a map with circles as requested. There are Apps that can also draw circles. For example, Locus map is good tool for a profilic hider. 1 3 Quote

Thanks for the Locus map tool info, I'll defo look into that 👍 Just out of interest why did you say that maximum the placements is not a good goal? Quote
+GeoTrekker26 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 From my perspective quality is far more important than quantity. I would much rather hunt for a carefully planned and placed cache than find dozens of test vials stuck into the holes in traffic sign posts. 4 3 1 Quote

I know this because I don't use the red circles to hide a cache. I keep the area's caches and waypoints loaded in my Garmin GPS, and while I'm standing at a candidate for a cache spot, I check how close the waypoints are. And this includes mystery caches, because why not include those, too? As mentioned, it can be done in a bunch of Apps including Locus Maps. Quote
+Viajero Perdido Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I'd rather be known for a few great caches than a thousand pixels of geo-art. But that's a personal preference. Locus Map lets you draw circles of any radius around single points, or - in one step - geo-proximity circles of the official radius around all caches in a folder. And, you can tell it to show puzzles - where you've corrected the coords - at the physical location, thus circles for the puzzles would be accurate too. End of spiel. I like the app, but it does cost money. Features out the wazoo. 1 1 Quote

Once upon a time, the guidelines actually specified that the ultimate goals of the saturation guideline were "to encourage you to seek out new places to hide caches rather than putting them in areas where caches already exist and to limit the number of caches hidden in a particular area". IMHO, if the only way you can find an allowable spot is to look for tiny gaps in the saturation map, then that area already has plenty of caches, and it's time to seek out new places to hide caches. 4 1 1 Quote
