Howdy Tecno Gurus,

Just got a Magellan Sport Trek Map for christmas and need a bit of advice. I manage a wildlife sanctuary and I really want to be able to use way points and track points to create a map i can print on my PC printer of the trails at the sanctuary. obviously, I would like the maps to be as accurate as possible. Here are my questions:

1. What is the best value in a software package that will allow me to create and print such maps?

2. What are the there techniques I should use to help ensure my maps are as accurate as possible?

You may answer me here or dend me Email direct at: birder@voyager.net

Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

LostOutdoors.com and a free trial of ExpertGPS at ExpertGPS.com. I use the last one all the time. It cost me around $50 - 60.00. I'm sure they're are others too.

I have done what you are asking. I did this for x-counrty and hiking trails . I used Delorme 3d Topoquads. The hardest part was the double tracking that happened because we had to go over out same track twice in a few spots. Editing took that way but was a lot more work than I had thought. The Delorme software was a little limited in editing and adding the trail number and the few words of text. I have used the trail version of ExpertGPS that many people have mentioned here. My old GPS is broke and my new one is on order so I could only input manual waypoints into ExpertGPS. So once my GPS arrives and I can upload some tracklogs and waypoints into ExpertGPS I will have a better idea. In my searching in this site most people like the ExpertGPS and the Nation Geographic topo. I like option of the airiel photos and the topo maps available from ExpertGPS.

Best of luck!

I use National Geographics. This isn't the least expensive, but it is very good. I currently have 2 states. It costs about $100 per state. 6 CD's per state unless you have something like California which probably takes 8. It is very detailed and includes the city streets. You can create waypoints on these maps and download the waypoints to your GPS or upload waypoints from the GPS to your national geographics maps. I use Mapsend Topo on my GPS which is the only software that can currently be loaded on a Magellan. Between the 2 I have been very pleased with the results both in geocaching and in getting around in new areas in general.

Lost? Keep going. You're making good time anyway!!
