stinger503 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 (edited) Hello! I'm working on creating a new Category for Wind Phones. What are Wind Phones? Wind Phones are telephones set up for the public to visit and talk to relatives who have passed away as a form of grieving. The original wind phone booth was set up in Japan by Itaru Sasaki in 2010 and became a well known grieving spot after the 2011 Tsunami disaster. Since then there are over 350 wind phones have been created according to https://www.mywindphone.com/, with locations in the US, Canada, Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. The movement seems to be growing in popularity with a Google News search showing a new story about them every couple weeks. Although mywindphone.com has a comprehensive list, there are other websites such as thetelephoneofthewind.com that exist. Let me know if you would like to be an officer or any other input. Category Group: https://www.Waymarking.com/groups/details.aspx?f=1&guid=8876c565-5cb5-4199-8f5d-83f7c048ed9d&gid=6 I created an uncategorized waymark based on my own Wind Phone visit here: https://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/wm1BG0C_Riverside_Park_Wind_Phone_Detroit_MI Edited February 5 by stinger503 3 1 1 Quote
Max and 99 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 What a fascinating proposal. It makes me sad to see so many of the ones in the list already gone. Thanks for telling us about them. Quote
Ariberna Posted February 6 Posted February 6 I think there is only 1 here in Europe, and if it is a category based in the USA.... Quote
pmaupin Posted February 6 Posted February 6 There are more than 20 in Europe in 12 European countries. Quote
Ariberna Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) There are a lot... 20! and in 12 countries. It's a global for a few possibilities to mark. Edited February 7 by Ariberna Quote

Ariberna Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Okay, I recognize that there was some irony, sorry. But there was no intention to denigrate. There are simply 4 points for a new category: Is premanent, global, interesting and unique. Intersting and unique is subjective. Permanent, it seems a fad that as has been said, there are not so many phones left, and global with that number does not seem to me. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with putting it to vote and let it come out whatever, as there were a few categories that were quite bad and irrelevant to my taste. Progress yes, improvement, of course, but always in categories that all users can find (and outside USA). 1 Quote
Ariberna Posted February 7 Posted February 7 (edited) Sorry, it is sad but my example is and and But in one African country I found that but I think that was a joke. Edited February 7 by Ariberna Quote
Bear and Ragged Posted March 3 Posted March 3 These post boxes are appearing in the UK. For letters to a deceased loved one. Another category, or combined in the same category? 1 1 Quote
PISA-caching Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Seems like a perfect addition to the future category. Unfortunately, there is neither a phone nor a post box of that kind in Austria (at least I can't find any), but in Peer Review I would vote Yea nonetheless. 1 Quote
