+BAMBOOZLE Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Is the Garmin GPS 73 geocaching friendly.....it does not seem to be. Can you load caches to it at all ? It seems they have put the 73 in a ( Great ) 78 case and put the 79 in the 62 type case that tends to fall apart. Quote
+GeoTrekker26 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 The 73 is targeted for marine use. I don't think there are many geocaches in that environment. Quote
gpsblake Posted January 16 Posted January 16 (edited) According to the 73 manual, yes it does.... https://www8.garmin.com/manuals-apac/webhelp/gps73/EN-SG/GUID-7C07FFD7-2BCD-4DF6-8E3D-2DC170A9B347-2404.html?local=true&nav=toc_pane And the 73 complete manual which also mentions geocaches https://static.garmin.com/pumac/gps73_OM_EN-PH.pdf I suspect the same way other Garmin units do, download the gpx files to the x:\Garmin\gpx folder x being whatever your computer recognizes the drive letter. Thanks....I read in the description that it is a non-mapping unit so I guess it does not have the mini sd port.....I can't see where it has a 3 axis or electronic compass so I guess it does not. Without mapping I would not want it for geocaching. Quote
+Atlas Cached Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Garmin 'GPS xx' are not mapping devices while 'GPSMap xx' or 'GPSMAP xx' devices are. The closest thing to the GPS 73 with mapping capability would be the GPSMAP 78. Quote

The Garmin GPS III+ and GPS V are mapping devices (and the GPS 12 MAP, although it has 'map' in the name). Quote
