What Geocaching related new years resolutions do you have for 2025

My resolution is to hide a geocache and get to 50 finds. I am at 35 right now so I only need to find 15 more.

Well after I hit my two year caching anniversary in June, my main goal will be filling my calendar.  I'll also be trying to hit 3K finds by the end of the year (shouldn't be too hard), hopefully grab some more states, and perhaps fill in my fizzy (d/t) grid a second time.

Posted

I'm currently on 1961 finds so the 2000th will be coming up soon, probably in February or March at my average find rate, so I need to start looking around for a suitable cache to mark the milestone with. For my 1000th I did a full day hike with a group of friends out to a T4.5 cache on the cliff-tops above the Hawkesbury River, but February and March are typically our hottest and most humid months so I should aim for something less strenuous but still spectacular.

I'm also edging closer to filling my D/T grid, with just two empty squares left now (5/3 and 5/4.5). It's not something I've been focused on, though, so I'm unlikely to go out of my way for those two, especially since solving D5 puzzles or finding D5 needles in haystacks aren't my forte.

As a CO, I have a 2-stage multi locked in to be published on the 19th of January as part of the Raining Caches promotion ahead of the Sydney GeoQuest Block Party on the 26th. I also have a germ of an idea for a somewhat silly QR-based puzzle cache to be called Quite Ridiculous, including a quite ridiculous hiding place I came across while hiking the Great North Walk in 2017. It's a fairly stunning spot but a long way from anywhere, so unless you're doing the through hike it's ridiculously hard to get to.

Of course it would need a quite ridiculous container, which I also have an idea for. Anyway, that's still all just a thought bubble at this stage. I don't have any other new caches in mind, but no doubt ideas will form over the course of my wanderings. At this time last year I only had one new cache planned, which was finally approved by National Parks after a long wait and published in February, but I ended up with eight new hides for the year, comprising four traditionals, two multis, a mystery and a virtual.

I'm also looking forward to more group outings with my caching friends and seeing what new caches they have in store. A prolonged illness in 2024 means I still have some catching up to do on last year's ones.

Ours goals are pretty modest. One constant goal is to find a minimum of 366 geocaches annually. That is usually an achievable one though it took until today to get to that goal for this year. Another goal is to finish off all the counties in Utah, Arizona and California which will happen someday.

Some pretty nerdy goals, but you are what you are, right?

  • Fill some squares in my Virtual D/T grid. I would love to have 16 left at the end of next year, which means I have to find 6 new combinations.
  • Fill some squares in my Earthcache D/T grid. With only 8 combinations left, it's tempting to go all out... but seeing that they're T5 and stuff, I'd be happy to do 3 new ones next year.
  • Find my 1000th Large cache. Should be a breeze.
  • Visit a few new countries. 4 are already planned.

My 2025 goal is simply to keep finding caches at places like this.  A good hike, a view, a smiley, repeat.  B)

Already have tickets for the next such trip, but it's in the opposite direction.  Maybe someday I'll make the looong flight down to Australia...

I'm not sure how likely it'll be in 2025, but I wouldn't mind adding at least one country cached to my total.

I'd also like to find at least 500 caches - something I intended to do this year but missed. (Yeah, I've got just under a day and a half left, but I'm working today and tomorrow and have zero plans to find 42 more caches in that time.)

Finally, I'd like to make more significant progress on the Texas County Challenge. We found our first Texas county in January 2008 and got some here and there over the years since, but when we moved back here last summer, we added 100 more counties. I just missed my goal of adding 50 new counties for 2024; since I have 87 left; I'll set this year's goal at 44 counties.

For my own personal reference, my past resolutions and results, or at least, all the ones I could find. 2024 2023 2022 & 2021 (sort of) 2020 2019 (2018?) 2017 2016 2015

I hit all my 2024 goal which was to finish filling in my Jasmer calendar grid.  I don't have any other goals except to find interesting geocaches and not worry about numbers.

I plan to host a GIFF event and submit an entry but whether that film gets picked is outside my control; my only goal is to complete and submit a film that I'm proud of and enjoy.

My goals…

- Reach 700+ geocaches

- Hide a Letterbox cache

- Receive all 2025 souvenirs

- Find a geocache in one new country

- Find geocaches in 3 new states

- Pass Joes33 (my friend) in find count 😆

Happy New Year!

Hmm...I was quite sucessful last year with every goal except one, so my goals are as follows

- Find more Wherigos

- Once again, curate my geocaches so as to make maintenance realistic....I have a few on the chopping block when maintenance is required.

- Apart from that, I don't really have any goals...I'm going to work toward a few challenges, but that'll basically involve just finding a bunch of geocaches...and I mean a bunch!

-I guess then, in that case, I can set a goal to hit 1,000 finds in my city  (I just hit 900 recently)

My 2025 goals:

-Fill in all 366 days on my caching calendar. I already have 345. So close!

-Get the 2025 Hider souvenir by hiding at least one hide. It will be another ammo can multi.

-Attend a CITO Event for the first time.

-Cache in at least one other country. I only have USA! I need to get out...

-Add a few more towns to the Mass351.

-Continue my usual routine of obsessively maintaining my own hides.

Cheers to 2025!

I've been cachin' a fair while now, but the renewed energy by relatively new cachers in our community has also rejuvenated my play! 2024 was a banner year for me. Why not continue the trend?
Goals 2025
- Host an event ( already set for April 27 in San Luis Obispo County, California - come join us!).

- complete my 366 days

-  reach 2,000

- attend more local events

- hide something super creative

I don’t have any particular numbers in mind.  Some things would include:

  • Getting healthy enough to make it easier to do more geocaching.
  • To place a letterbox cache involving Viking explorations that I have had finished in my closet for at least two or three years.
  • Placing a cache honoring a piece of local history and Mabel Cramer.
  • To be allowed to place a virtual.
  • Finishing some new installments in the Adventures of Aura Raines (the Clarian space commander who is a friend to geocachers all) and bringing back other characters I have featured in caches and logs over the years.
  • Seeing Bigfoot while caching.
  • Finding caches with friends and my noncaching spouse (particularly during trips we are planning).
  • Writing a log that gets a literary or historical award.

In other words, all the usual things.

My Goals for 2025 are

As based in the UK, these will take a bit of traveling

Find over 60 year 2000 placed caches  - (currently on 51)

Log a cache in 40 USA States  - (currently on 30)

Improve on my finds for 1 day – (currently on 1017)

With a bit of planning, it wont be that hard

My updated goals are in the screenshot of my profile page, below.  Many of these are multi-year goals - I don't care what day I accomplish them, and I'm gradually working towards them.

In 2024 I achieved one of my longstanding goals: to find caches in an unbroken chain of counties from the Canadian border (Michigan's Upper Peninsula) to the Gulf of Mexico (Galveston, TX).
