Canadians being charged VAT for annual renewal.

Hi all.

 

Just got my renewal notice - was charged $33.99 for a $29.99 yearly renewal. When I queried the Talking Heads at Groundspeak , I was told that VAT is added to my account....except that I'm Candaian, live in Canada, and have been a Premium member for at least 13 years, without paying taxes at any time.

 

Just curious how many others have had this happen?

No VAT in the US at least for now. Agh recently moved to a state with sales tax, unfortunately $2.61 increase from the previous year. 

 

My guess is you paid Canadian VAT. Governments are getting pickier and pickier about taxes and they must audit something now so GS is  collecting it.

No, we have no VAT. The lackey who responded said I paid VAT was because Canada is part of the European Union (it isn't). I suggested he may want to check a map...

When I look at your account, in addition to the $29.99 base charge, I see a $1.50 Canadian country tax and a $2.40 Ontario provincial tax. So, it looks like Canada has started enforcing sales taxes on memberships.

Maybe you would be surprised to know that French Guyana is part of the EU.
