+BNMac Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Two issues: 1: Clicking on User Profile> Geocaches> Geocaches Found (All Geocache Finds) displays a map with a list to the left: https://www.geocaching.com/live/play/map?sort=founddate&hf=0&asc=false&sa=1&mlat=36.4148869703035&mlng=-9.039158499999985&zoom=3&fb=BNMac clicking on any of the cache types such as Traditional Cache shows the older style list with no map: https://www.geocaching.com/play/results?ct=2&sa=1&fb=BNMac&sort=founddate&asc=false While showing the map may be a nice addition, we should have the option to select either view. Personally, I'd much rather have the old list view, perhaps with an option for the list/map view. 2: When clicking on (All Geocache Finds) on a friend's profile (and Steve), I get a map & list that is obviously not his. See attached image; and Steve is in NW Oregon, not Western Europe! This happens, and has happened multiple times when looking at other users finds! --BNMac... Quote

With other users, (your profile, and I checked a couple of others) I have no option to view a map, just the list of caches found. +Max and 99 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 (edited) 6 days ago I messaged someone because I was seeing the same thing and didn't know what I was doing wrong: I've gone to two different profiles and when I click on the map of the geocaches they have found, it is showing me geocaches on the other side of the world which they have not been to! I'm utterly confused as to why it's doing that. When I click on the list view I don't think that's correct at all either. Edited November 26, 2024 by Max and 99 Quote
+Max and 99 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I go to cavino gal's profile, (chrome), I get the map view showing this: And then the list view: Quote
+BNMac Posted November 26, 2024 Author Posted November 26, 2024 Thanks for pointing out the option in the Preferences, barefootjeff! I haven't made any changes in the preferences recently, so this must be the default view when they implemented the map/list setup. When I set that option back to list only, the caches finds are correct. It is only in the map/list where it is displaying the caches as I depicted in my original post. It appears to be a similar map/list for others, based on Max and 99's images. Regarding the list/map buttons in the list/map view as Max and 99 pointed out, that appears on the website on my phone as well. But not on the desktop verison; I'm using the latest Firefox on Mac. Never been anywhere close to that part of the world!! I still am not seeing any of this - but then, I didn't have the Preferences set to show the map. I just went in and checked that box, so I'll play around with it and see what changes. Interesting.... ETA: The list view is also off - though it does have one cache listed as San Fran Cache and I am near the SF area... Edited November 26, 2024 by CAVinoGal Quote
+CAVinoGal Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 After ticking the box to show results directly on a map in Settings, as suggested by BarefootJeff above, I just now pulled up my profile and map, and that seems to work as intended - I get a list of caches on the left, and a map on the right that has the actual caches I have found. However, when I go to a friend's profile, that map that comes up is on the other side of the world as others have reported. Interesting indeed! Quote

And the first result is same as everyone else, Bain Park? It seems no matter whose profile is clicked, that cache is at the top of the list. Quote
+janrei_ Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 The search map does not have a filter to show only the finds of other players. As the results are not effectively filtered, you will get a subset of all caches worldwide. It may therefore simply be a bug that for this query you are redirected to the search map if you have activated the corresponding checkbox in your preferences. On the search map, the list and the map should show exactly the same results. If the browser window is not large enough to show both at the same time, buttons will appear to switch between the two views. This is not new, the old map behaved in the same way. 1 Quote

Yes, that's right, the search map isn't supposed to show another player's finds as that's considered a privacy violation. Quote

It seems no matter whose profile is clicked, that cache is at the top of the list. Maybe for you, but I get a different list. It's the same list regardless if it is a friend or just another geocacher, but it is NOT the same as the one shown by BNMac and Max and 99. The username goes away in the URL and I get mlat=19.806660245236632&mlng=-0.15281666666692217&zoom=3 as the coordinate string no matter whose username I use, except my own. When I look at my own geocaches, I get an accurate listing and the URL is mlat=34.49642258116825&mlng=-97.63755850000001&zoom=5&fb=CAVinoGal. ??? +Caaghyr's Crew Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 It would be nice to see a resolution here, this prevents us solving puzzles where the setter has based a clue on their history. 1 Quote
+Max and 99 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I needed a GC code for an Earth Cache I recently found, so I went to my public profile and clicked on Earth caches under Geocaches Found and none of them are ones I found. Quote

Odd, that works fine for me. It lists 45 ECs, all of which I've found and, looking down the list, most of which bring back fond memories of doing them. Edit to add: when I go to your profile and click on Earchcaches you've found, it lists 31 and clicking on the first one (GC6QBNE) has your log as the most recent so I guess you found it. +janrei_ Posted January 1 Posted January 1 It seems that the "Found by me" filter is not set properly this way, which is particularly noticeable when displaying the caches on the map. After I set the filter manually, my finds are displayed correctly. Quote
AngryBeesy Posted Friday at 07:18 PM Posted Friday at 07:18 PM Apologies for the wait. The problem with viewing/mapping geocaches found from your profile page has now been fixed. Quote
