From today's blog post:

Get ready for a sweet new souvenir!! Pi Day 2025

In 2025, geocachers can earn the Pi Day souvenir by finding and logging any Mystery Cache between Friday, March 14 and Sunday, March 16. To make this holiday extra sweet, all non-Premium Mystery Caches are open to everyone throughout the weekend on the Geocaching® app from 11:00:00 UTC on Friday, March 14 until 10:00:00 UTC on Monday, March 17, 2025.

The best Pi day geocaching event was 2015.  We had our event on March 14, 2015 at 9:26am in honor of the digits, at a Pie shop in Nyack NY.  It was my largest non-GIFF event with 42 attendees, all packed into this tiny little shop.

I get that the US uses MM/DD/YYYY date format while other countries do not, but it worked out well for us.

No, they actually want you to go outside in PJs.  Nope, not doing that.

I haven't worn PJs since I was a teenager, so attending an event in my night attire probably wouldn't be appreciated by the other attendees.

I thought it could be fun to have a PJ 'flash mob' event this day.

Given what people wear these days, caching in PJs is no big deal.

Back when FTF was more of a thing, I could imagine someone running out in their PJs.

Two Halloweens ago I decided to go into work dressed as a "work from home engineer", wearing flannel pajama pants, an undershirt and robe, socks and slippers, and a coffee cup of course.  My coworkers got a kick out of it and now I can cross "going to work in my PJs" off my to-do list.  :-)

Re Pajama Day: April 16

I thought for a moment that they were officially promoting armchair logging!

Frankly, if people would leave their PJs at home, that would be fine. Can’t believe I’m seeing flannels and bunny slippers in restaurants now -- and I'm not talking Golden Corral.  Saw a pair of Hello Kitty PJ bottoms and slippers on a 20-something in a restaurant where the entrees run to about $50 pp.

I saw a whole family dressed in PJs ... in the security line at an airport.  They stood out.

I don't even own any street-legal PJs, and the boxers I do sleep in certainly aren't warm enough for April around here, so maybe I'll just avoid caching on April 16 ... or hide the badge like all the others.

But...  points for creativity.

It's getting harder and harder to find them with both head/tail lights and a working horn.

I just had my first caches of 2025 publish this week, and I didn't see a souvenir yet, either.

Well, you are the second one I have heard of who has had this problem.  I attended an event last evening and all others I talked with, who had hidden caches this year, had received the souvenir.

Maybe it is isolated to new geocaches published last week?  I those I talked with last evening had their caches published earlier in the year.

Same problem here - 3 published so far, all last week, but no souvenir!  I did mention this to HQ but no joy so far!

From today's blog post:

A new season and a new souvenir!

Welcome the arrival of the equinox in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres with a unique souvenir! Geocaching HQ has a special new March equinox souvenir just for you.

From March 20-23, 2025, find one geocache, Event Cache, or Adventure Lab® Location to earn your souvenir.

This year, we celebrate the changing of the seasons with souvenir artwork inspired by crowned cranes from each hemisphere. Cranes represent migratory patterns and seasonal change.

Northern Hemisphere:

  • The Red-crowned crane represents harmony and the balance of life.

Southern Hemisphere:

  • The Grey crowned crane represents change and a renewal of life.

Whatever changes this season brings, we hope you find peace in the transition and joy in your next geocache find. How will you celebrate the equinox?

This popped up in my geocaching notifications. I assumed that clicking on View Souvenirs would show me the upcoming souvenirs, not the ones I've already earned. Or at least both.

I thought it would be best to attach this to the souvenir discussion rather than the app thread.

Well I managed to get the Finder souvenir with half a day to spare, but talk about doing it the hard way! With no unfound caches close by, I spent last night poring over the map and decided on a couple of fairly easy traditionals in central Sydney I hadn't done yet. I set off by train this morning, not realising that trackwork this weekend meant they weren't running all the way to the city, so I ended up on a crowded metro for the last part of the journey, then an even more crowded light rail to get me close to the caches. After battling through yet more crowds on foot, I reached one of the caches only to find a couple of muggle families sitting virtually on top of it eating lunch. Not wanting to wait, I set off for the other cache a few hundred metres away and fortunately in a much more muggle-free spot. Phew!

For the Hider souvenir, I'm starting to put together a multi I've been mulling over for some time. There's a scenic headland that's been opened up by a recently archived 2010 cache so I went exploring a week or so back but ran out of daylight, then it rained almost non-stop for a week. I got back out there yesterday afternoon, confirming my two waypoint locations and a couple of options for the final. I'd intended using a 1.3 litre Duratech instrument case as the container, but my preferred hiding place really requires something bigger so tomorrow I'll be going out hunting for ammo cans. Once I've settled on the hiding place, I can then start putting together the two waypoint objects that will reveal the final's latitude and longitude respectively. With another period of extended wet weather forecast to move in from Thursday, I'm not sure if I'll have everything ready by then as some of the preparation will involve waiting for paint to dry, but maybe there's still a chance it could be published before the souvenir runs out at the end of the month.

I had to chuckle when I saw this new Sydney 1.5/1.5 traditional micro published this morning.

At least they're honest about it. I can't help wondering how many more of this month's hides will be placed just so the CO can get the Blue Switch Hider souvenir. I must admit the new multi I'm currently working on was mainly motivated by the souvenir, although the concept has been simmering away on the back burner for a while. With another extended spell of wet weather moving in tomorrow, I was at least able to get out this morning and place the final, as the climb down to GZ gets a bit too slippery for me in the wet. The waypoint objects won't be ready for another 4 or 5 days but they don't need dry weather to place.

No matter which hemisphere you live in, the solstice represents the transitions between seasons and new beginnings. Welcome these changes with a unique souvenir.

From June 20–22, 2025, find and log any Adventure Lab® geocache, event, or location to earn your June solstice souvenir.

Whatever this season brings, we hope you find peace in the transition and joy in your next geocache.

How will you celebrate the solstice?

I might create a separate account for Adventure Labs, and actually give one a try. But probably not.

That's some unusual wording. It seems to refer to Adventures twice ("Adventure Lab® geocache" and "location") and events once, while seemingly omitting "regular" caches. It's hard to tell if this is just a poor choice of wording, or that the only ways to earn the souvenir is to attend an event or complete an Adventure location.

That's probably my fault as I used Google translate for a local story on the official geocaching  blog.

Edit:

Here's the English version from the newsletter I just got:

Thanks. This makes more sense: "From June 20-22, 2025, find and log any geocache, Event, or Adventure Lab® Location to earn your June solstice souvenir."

My guess is that there will be at least one event around here that weekend...

Sweet!  I hadn't actually planned it for the solstice, but I am hosting my 4th annual "Cross Country" geocaching event (which also happens to be my Community Celebration event) on June 22 - with an Adventure lab at the event venue and a Bonus cache too!  https://coord.info/GCAYQF3  So those who attend will get the souvenir!  And most cache their way to and from the event as well.
