Keystone
I took the OP's idea to involve hiding a cache ON the cruise ship, for "whomever likes to cruise." This idea wouldn't work for a second reason - the guideline prohibiting commercial caches. Such a cache could not be found without buying a ticket, and the cruise ship could be considered "entering a business." 1 1 Quote Link to comment

And then there are the guidelines prohibiting temporary caches and caches "intended to move" (e.g., because they're on a ship that moves). 2 Quote Link to comment

+TriciaG
Also, I can imagine a cruise ship employee finding a "suspicious package" hidden on the ship. 3 1 Quote Link to comment

That should have been your first question, not an afterthought. How exactly did you propose giving static GPS coordinates to a moving ship? Edited November 11 by JL_HSTRE 1 Quote Link to comment

+thebruce0
Now you could of course hold your own scavenger hunt on the ship; assuming of course you have permission. A better implementation would be find someone on the ship, staff or not (or at a protected known location), and have them be the target, so the package is 'guarded' (won't be come across randomly and cause a freakout), and release hints as you wish. But it can't be listed as a geocache here. Quote Link to comment
Hobes1
hi all. after coming back from the cruise, it would have been a fun find to anyone who is on this group who does cruise. i spoke with a few people on the cruise who just happen to be cachers and they thought the idea was good. and they would have been up for a new idea. name the ship and give the clues. but given the rules here, it didnt go ahead. so ill come up with another cache for locals in my area, so hopefully it will be accepted .. The only thing I have heard of being hidden on cruise ships are rubber duckies but you would never locate one using a GPS, just your eyes. I cruise and geocache. I have not yet been on a cruise where there has been another geocacher on board. Occacionally I have been in a port where there has been a cacher from another ship and have actually met a couple of them. I usually find out later, when I log my finds online, and see logs for the same caches on the same day where the log mentions they were from a ship that day.
