Guest bogtrotter
just had my eTrex for a couple of days. No probs with using it & it gives near identical co-ords to a friend's Magellan 315. So I was a bit surprised to find that both GPSs give a position about 750m NW of any known grid position on an OS Landranger. i.e. our local church is positioned by GPS about 750m NW of where it is marked on the OS. using either Lat/Long or OSGB. The GPSs are on WGS84 datum. Can anyone explain? Quote Link to comment
Guest JasonW
- it should for you - it does for me and reading Moss Trooper's reply here, something similar appears to work for him and his Etrex? too Quote Link to comment
Guest Moss Trooper
Bogtrotter. Make sure that when you set the Etrex up, as Jason has said, it is on the right coordinates for the map you are using. So if you are using Landranger maps the Co-ord should be on British Grid and the Datum to OSGB. should then be spot on give or take a smidgen. Moss Quote Link to comment
Guest bogtrotter
Thanks guys Just a bit of brain-fade on my part. Had eTrex set to British Grid but not on OSGB! Didn't find OSGB under map datums till this morning as I was looking for it under 'position format' which threw me a bit. Anyway it's spot on now and now I know how, I can change from WGS84 for geocaching to OSGB for general use when I need to. Hope to seek out my first cache on Thursday. Thanks again for the help.
