+igator210
I'm not one to pursue souvenirs. Most I get just from my normal geocaching habits. But the ones I really like are the Geotour Souvenirs. But I hate how they are implemented. They seem to be an all or nothing situation, and as soon as one cache in the Geotour is archived, that's it, you can no longer earn the souvenir. I wish HQ would implement a 90% competition level to earn the souvenir. Sometimes it takes even less than that to earn the associated Geocoin. Edited November 5 by igator210 2 Quote Link to comment

Archived geocaches are not included in the criteria to get a geotour souvenir. Disabled geocaches are. All or nothing is correct! You just have to log a find on all the active caches in the tour at that time. There have been several discussions on this frustrating criteria. Here are two of the forum discussions: I especially agree with the person who posted the first discussion. Yes, the geotour itself has its own criteria for earning any reward that is offered, and sometimes it requires less geocaches than the souvenir. I too really enjoy collecting Geotour souvenirs! +hzoi
So far I've found 58 caches that are or were part of a geotour. I have only one geotour souvenir, from a series that consisted of only 5 caches around GeoWoodstock, and that was pretty much inadvertent - I didn't realize I'd swept the series until the souvenir popped. I suppose if I had really bucked down and concentrated on a particular series, I'd have more. But I haven't had any that held my interest that long. Most of my geotour finds are from the same three series along the Virginia and Maryland coasts, but they're between 40 and 60 caches each and pretty spread apart. Quote Link to comment

It was a fair bit of work to complete some of the revolutionary geotours in that area. Quote Link to comment
+igator210
I did a GeoTour where two caches were disabled at the time and now are archived. So no chance of getting those finds. I know a lot of work goes into setting up a GeoTour, which is why I like showing off that I worked on it. I know there is a cheat way to earn the souvenir, but when I asked the CO about it, they weren't really receptive to it. Quote Link to comment

I assume you mean deleting a find on one of the geocaches, then re-logging the find? If I was the CO I would totally understand. Disabled geotour geocaches are a huge frustration. +GeoElmo6000
I don't normally look at GeoTours but after reading this thread I looked to see if there are any local (there aren't) or if there were any relatively nearby. The closest one is in Baltimore, and I clicked on it, and now I'm turned off to GeoTours as a whole. I didn't realize they could span enormous distances! The one in Baltimore is 18 caches but it spans several states. I had assumed the 18 caches would be in Baltimore or near the city. And this is only an 18 cache GeoTour! The next closest is also in Maryland and consists of 55 geocaches. Over even more states! Lame. ETA: I did see that the one in Boston is only in Boston, and the one at Penn State is only very close to Penn State, so I'm glad some GeoTours have some sense. +fuzziebear3
Depends on who sponsors them and how they are set up. There are a couple in our area (Ohio) that were done by chambers of commerce / visitors bureaus and whatnot, they are usually across one county or metro area. While I don't expect that I can complete them in a day, I expect that over a handful of outings I can get them done. Quote Link to comment

A lot of GeoTours are fairly condensed...doable in a long day or over a weekend. There are some that definitely need a bit of dedication to complete. There is one in central PA that consists of 156 caches, 155 of those are in one county, with the last one just over the border. It would make a nice Geocaching vacation spot. 1 Quote Link to comment

I'm going to guess that one of these is the Star Spangled Banner tour, and the other is either the Find Your Chesapeake or Captain John Smith tour. Those are the ones I mention above that I gave up on completing. Just not interested. Quote Link to comment
+Goldenwattle
Never heard of this. As far as I know we have nothing like that in Australia. Gees, I drove all the way from Canberra to Darwin (being the first to do this) following a many point multicache and didn't get anything but a single smilie for it. Plus found lots of other caches on the way. An indirect route, so over 10,000kms return. Why do some get souvenirs for travelling to caches and not others? And I bet those souvenirs don't match that distance I drove. However , this comment was mainly made in surprise, because souvenirs outside of countries, states and the like don't interest me, so you can have that souvenir. Quote Link to comment
