+mkitter
For the 25th anniversary of Geocaching, I'm interested in planning an event for Girl Scouts. Can we create caches on one of our properties and then take them down after event? Quote Link to comment
Keystone
Yes, you can hide caches to find during the event, but they cannot be published on Geocaching.com unless: 1. The caches meet the "Cache Permanence" guideline - being hidden with the intent to remain in place for the long term - with the absolute minimum of 90 days. 2. The caches are available to all geocachers to hunt, without having to seek permission from the owners/managers of the Girl Scout property. 2 2 Quote Link to comment

If so, my suggestion is that you hide some caches on your properties, record the coordinates, and distribute those coordinates to whoever is participating. Have them enter the coordinates and find the caches as they would public geocaches, and then afterward you clean up the caches. They won't count toward geocaching.com account finds but they'll have the experience of finding caches, and you won't have to worry about the 0.1 mile distance between caches rule either. If you want to create public caches for them to find, do what keystone is suggesting. Make sure you publish any caches at least a week before the event, and if you want the caches published at the time of the event, communicate that with your reviewer. But those caches should follow permanence guidelines (90 days minimum) and be accessible to everyone to find. Quote Link to comment

I recommend temporary caches, which is what we always did for our Girl Scout events and Parks classes. 2 Quote Link to comment
+Smitherington
I did that for a geocaching 101 event that the local parks department asked me to put on. One advantage of the temporary caches is that they did not need to be 528 feet apart. It worked out well. Quote Link to comment
