How do I.... find a list of US city ID numbers, as used by geocaching.com?

(title) Looking for a list of US cities and their associated "number". I know it exists, it's being used for a mystery I am trying to solve.

Apologies in advance for putting this diabolical mystery idea in some of your heads.. LOL

The only thing that I can think of is the ID numbering system used by the Advanced Search system, but that's quite technical.

I'm not certain if a list exists, but you can go from city name to ID by adapting the following URL appropriately:

https://www.geocaching.com/api/proxy/web/search/v2/typeahead?query=phoenix

I saw the "epa" etc, but what led you to that?

A pretty easy Google search. :o

Searching is the first geocacher skill, right?

This certainly seems promising, though the number isn't in the range that makes sense for what I expected for the puzzle..  Thanks so much for your answer though... I will play with this!

Update: For some unexpected reason, which I hope the CO will now explain since I got green on the checker, the information gleaned from your link (with my seemingly unjustified modification) worked!

THANKS!!
