Since virtual caches no longer exist, what geocaching type should I use? I don't want to place a physical cache container at this location... Thanks in advance

Try a multi-cache.  At stage one, where you don't want to hide a physical container, use numbers or letters from a sign, statue, etc. which the finder then plugs into a formula to give them the coordinates for a physical container and logbook hidden somewhere else.

Virtual caches are only available on a limited basis. Currently, none are available to place, though there may be future releases.

 

You have many different options.

 

Easiest would be an adventure lab.

 

Or have an event there.

 

If there is an earth science feature you can base a lesson on, place an earthcache.

 

If you want to place a container, just not there, have it be a virtual stage at the start of a multi or letterbox hybrid, or have someone solve a puzzle to reveal the coordinates of a mystery cache. Or design a Wherigo cartridge.
