App notifications do not show up on Android (v9.60.0)

Unfortunately the latest update did not fix (my/the) issue on Android with the message center notifications. I just won't get them.

See my old thread:

I also tried reinstalling the app. After the reinstall the app asked for permission to show notifications which I granted of course.

Again I also disabled the stoppage of app activity when the phone is idle, but is has no effect.

I can wait up to 15 mins and i won't receive a notification.

App version 9.60.0 downloaded thru Google Play Store

Phone: Pixel 7a, Android 14 with latest updades

Again: iPhone does show the notifications instantly (iPhone SE, iOS 17.6.1, App Version 9.60.0 installed through AppStore)

From my point of view it would be great if a dev could share some of the documentation or explain how the notifications work in general.

Am I an exotic user because I use the app on two phones / OS? I have absolutely no clue what the problem could be and it would make so much more sense if I could understand the mechanics and we could bugfix together ..

Thanks in advance!

I was so hoping that this update was going to fix the issue, but alas it is still not working for me. After the update to 9.60.0, I cleared cache on the app, but did not clear data.

I'm having the issue on a Pixel 6, Android 14, latest updates.

I also run the app with the same account on a Pixel 3, Android 12, app version is 8.61.0. On there the notifications have been working with no issues.

Hello, I've been looking for a solution to the lack of notifications on my android device. All software is up to date. Battery optimization is turned off. Notifications are all turned on. I receive no notifications of any kind (primarily trying to get message notifications working). I have tried cycling the settings. Logging out and back in. And of course, updating. I see a thread that was closed recently, but unfortunately, this issue is persisting with 9.60.0.

Not only does it still not work (I'm on 9.61.0 at the moment), but it's even worse than it was before.  Not only is my phone not giving notifications for the app, but now when I open the app it doesn't even show the blue dot over the message icon if I received a message.  So now I need to actively go to the messenger page to see whether I've received any messages.

Same issue here fully updated S22 ultra allowed all permissions and I have the same issue with not receiving any notifications through the app

I got caught out by this yet again yesterday. I was out caching far from home when a brand new PM newbie (no finds and never visited the website) messaged me about one of my multis which had them bamboozled, but with no Message Centre notifications in the app, it wasn't until I got home many hours later that I discovered it. I sent them a reply although by then they would have long since given up, but if they're using the Android version of the app they won't have gotten any notification of it anyway. The Message Centre is no longer useful in this situation of a player needing help in the field, they'd be better off sending a postcard by snail mail.

I don't use the official app but I get an email to my phone when someone sends me a message centre message.

Do the people on this thread experiencing issues with the app not receive an email as well?

I get emails on my PC at home, but I don't redirect them to my phone for the simple reason that most emails that come to my geocaching address (instant notifications, watchlist notifications, logs on my own caches, newsletters, etc.) don't require my immediate attention. In a typical day I'll get about a dozen of those, but often a lot more when a batch of new caches is published as my notification radius overlaps the northern half of Sydney. I don't need to interrupt what I'm doing (often driving with limited opportuniiies to pull over and park) to look at those, but most Message Centre messages I get do require more urgent attention. A pity we can't set up a separate email address just for Message Centre notifications.

I receive emails when I get a message, but I don't do notifications of my emails to my phone.

Yes, it's a current 'known issue', discussed elsewhere here in the fora.

I am still testing. One time I only got the email but no notification thought the app.

Till trying to correlate it with something I did and to reproduce it.

Hast there been an update?

Notifications work now on my android!

Sadly the Message Centre notifications still aren't working on my Android. It seems to have gotten worse, not only is there no notification but it now doesn't even show the dot next to Messages like it does on the website:

The app version I have is 9.64.0, but perhaps there is a later one that I don't have yet.

My phone has now updated the app to 9.65.0 and the notifications are working again. Thanks!

It's interesting that from the problems I read here that Android seems to be the less supported, if it is correct that "Android has a 71.42% market share worldwide".

As of November 2024, Android has a 71.42% market share worldwide. In the US, iPhones hold a market share of 56.63%. More than 1 billion iPhones and over 3 billion Android devices are currently active.10 Dec 2024

Maybe it's because there are slightly more iPhones in the USA.
