Stop being owner

Many years ago I adopted a cache. I then stopped playing and moved away from the area. I am back to playing again, however I cannot do the maintenance or anything on the cache. Is there a way to remove myself from being the owner? Or can it only happen if I transfer it?

Archive it.  But you would still need to pick up the remnants. Or ask someone to do it for you, if you are no longer in the area.

That way, it opens up the location for someone local to place a new cache.

You've archived others, just archive it.  Hopefully you pick it up when doing so...

But by the system you'll still be considered the "owner" after archiving.

I keep hearing that, but I wonder.  I had a  Geoart:  Dolphin in the River.  24 caches on the Hudson River Walkway.  It was a greatly loved series.  When my partner died nine years ago, I archived the series because it did need frequent maintenance.  No one has hidden any new caches along the walkway.

But it is nice to see spots become available.  There are several places where I may put a cache, but it might take me a few years to devise just the right combination of theme, container, D/T, and my own interest in maintaining it.  If I'm doing it, it can't be just another micro with a wad of wet paper inside.

Some are near caches I had to archive, where I know I'd need to invent a little more muggle protection for a cache to be viable.  Maybe there won't be 24 at once, but rest assured that if there's a cool spot, someone is considering it.
