New Search Feature in Geocaching App!

Recommended Posts

I already made this suggestion through email but would also love to see if others would like this kind of search feature as well. Or maybe there's a way to already do this that I don't know about yet lol.

One of my favorite types of geocaches to search for is cemetery caches. I love checking out cemeteries wherever I go and I love the quietness of searching for caches without a lot of muggles around. So, my thought was that they should add a feature in which we can narrow down our searches to a specific geocache location, such as being able to search for caches in cemeteries, beaches, public parks, on hiking trails, underwater caches, historical markers, caches as landmarks, near museums, etc. Has anyone else ever wished we had those kinds of search features available? I know we can search using the attributes so maybe there could be a cemetery cache attribute added? I'd just really like to be able to spend a day doing cemetery caches or beach caches and it would be so cool to have a way to search for them in the app. What do you all think?

Cemetery caches are my favorites! But I'm against this idea you propose. I keep a bookmark / list of cemetery caches.

Adding an attribute for "cemetery cache" presupposes that cemetery caches are allowed everywhere.  Since some jurisdictions have laws prohibiting geocaches in cemeteries, it's inappropriate to have an official cache attribute that suggests otherwise.

For beach caches, a map-based search should produce a useful list of caches near where you see a public beach on a map.

How do you find the cemetery caches to add to your list? Other than having to click on every single cache on the map to see if it says it's a cemetery cache in the description? Just curious why you're against this idea? What's the downside of having more ways to search for caches?

I would see having a cemetery cache attribute as no different than any other attribute. There's an attribute for "viewing area nearby" even though not every single geocache out there is near a viewing area. There's an attribute for "park and grab" even though not every geocache on the map is a park and grab. I don't think it would hurt anything to have a cemetery cache attribute. If cemetery caches aren't allowed in a certain area then people just wouldn't select that as one of their cache's attributes when submitting a new cache.
