+Torgut Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 I just noticed this is a well needed category. There is a bird watching location, but there are plenty of locations with shelters or otherwise designed/created spots for observing all sorts of animals around the world. Just saying, to whoever wishes to work on it. Just came to my attention after a trip in Namibia where there are so many "water holes" to attract animals for watching. Quote
+Country_Wife Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 I’m both a birdwatcher and an animal watcher. I immediately had ethical and legal concerns about this. In my province, there are laws to protect animal dens of all kinds, from hibernating bears to bat roosts to snake hibernacula. The local amateur naturalist community is careful about not publicizing these locations, because even small disturbances can have major impacts. Having said that, I think an animal-watching location category could be okay if it follows the same guidelines as the birdwatching locations category: ”The birdwatching location must be for the primary purpose of birdwatching, be designated by a government entity or other preservation society with interests in protecting birds and have a sign to identify the area for birdwatching. The public must visit this location with the intention of birdwatching.” These three criteria ensure that you are not publicizing an area that is otherwise unknown or intentionally kept quiet to protect the animals. 1 1 2 Quote
+Torgut Posted August 31, 2024 Author Posted August 31, 2024 Sure. Of course. Anyway, it was just an idea to whoever would like to pursue it and bring it to life in the shape of a new category. 2 Quote
