It wasn't broken. but they fixed it anyway. And now. it's a pain in the butt

"That email address is in use by another member"

And it appears someone else is using my email address.

Are you sure it's not your second account?

Do a "forgot username" using the email address and you can regain (or take over) access to the account. There's a good chance it was you, or someone close to you, since the email address has to be validated by someone with access to it.

Here to chime in on what might be happening - 

We see this all the time specifically when authorization logins are used. 

If you ever tried to login with Apple/Google/FB - then you may have created a profile without fully intending to. 

If you wanted to set up authorization you can do so once you are logged in with your username and password, via the profile settings>authorizations.
