MoreOutdoor Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I have, for many years, been an avid Geocacher I was very active with the "original concept". Which originated on Dartmoor UK, that being "letterboxing". With the birth of Geocaching and the increased interest in "search and find" various containers of different shapes and sizes. I got disheartened, not by the concept of "searching and finding" a geocache at a location, but by the damage that containers have impacted on the locations. (Notwithstanding, abiding by the guidelines set. ) I found "Waymaking" as another "search and find" or post a location. Which to me is educational and environmentally friendly (excluding getting there). I have looked at the new Adventure Lab, which I must admit "has some good points, but, "does not do it, grab me, in the same as "Waymarking". My question is - What are the intentions for "Waymarking", in so far as responding to submissions within a timely manner, and if no reply where should one go to make representations? (I have asked this question "to the frog", but to date have had NO reply) I would of course love to see an app for Android - to keep up with the ever-evolving technology and application not desktop activities I look for your thoughts on this matter. Thanks All, 1 Quote
+Max and 99 Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 (edited) I assume you know that each category has its own officers to review submissions. They volunteer their time and fit in reviewing with their real life obligations. The forum provides instructions on what to do if your waymark has not been reviewed in 2 weeks. Wayfrog explained this process. A little patience is required. As each category is different, the review load for each category can vary greatly. Someone can submit 100 waymarks to the category the same day, and I'm not going to be able to get to those all in a week, especially considering my review queue might be for several other categories as well. I too would love to see an Android app for Waymarking but it's not likely going to happen. Edited July 17, 2024 by Max and 99 1 Quote
Rock Chalk Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 As this topic is not related to the official Geocaching apps, I am moving it to the Waymarking forum. Quote
+elyob Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Waymarking is definitely not mothballed. Visit a waymark. Be sure to photograph. Create a waymark. Reviewers are ready and waiting. Quote
+Phronimos Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Thank you wayfrog for publishing my two 'stuck' Waymarks. I was not complaining about your tardiness - just the lack of acknowledgement of my email. Without confirmation one assumes all sorts of problems... you've retired, or there's a problem with my email, or the Waymark... It's all a guess. I appreciate all the volunteer's work as I'm a volunteer myself - just not here. 1 1 Quote
+Phronimos Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Definitely not mothballed. I've just restarted Waymarking again after an absence of some eight years due to taking up geocaching. But I've run out of local geocaches and looking for other challenges. I've done the 366-day streak of geocache finds, so I'm now attempting a 366-day streak of Waymarking. I'm up to Day 39! Unfortunately I'm having to post new Waymarks for that to happen, as there's just too few Waymarks available - not just locally, but across the whole country. I know a couple of the previous 'keen' NZ Waymarkers still geocache, but they don't seem to waymark any more. I've been trying to generate interest at geocaching events, but folks just don't get it. As I wrote on my profile fourteen years ago, "Waymarking is a great way to combine my loves of travelling, photography, hiking, orienteering and rogaining." And to that I can now add Geocaching. Definitely not mothballed. Much better than Wherigos and even better than Adventure Labs. Very educational, and works well with travelling / exploring. Cheers 2 Quote
MoreOutdoor Posted July 18, 2024 Author Posted July 18, 2024 Thank you ALL for your prompt responses. I appreciate the logistics of categories and the process reviews therein, I was not complaining either. Like Phromimos, (I am also a returning geocacher) and would suspect others. I/We find "Waymarking" a great way to stay active, find, and explore new areas and categories". But when a submission is held up longer than the suggested 2 weeks, one is left and can only wonder. I like the idea, of additional acknowledgment emails, especially if a submission has been escalated for further peer review. In my view, it acknowledges progression through the system. But I guess it is Category-lead-driven and not a switch within the program. Thanks again 1 Quote
