Help with event cache

Recommended Posts

I have been planning a Bucks meet for some time now and 3 days ago I put together an event cache page and submitted it. Just now I have recieved a really smug email from an automated Bot saying that the page has been archived because I can't make an event page just for a meet, there has to be caching involved. This would be fine but it quite clearly stated on my page that I would be planting a cache especially for the event!?! Am I missing something? he page is not offensive, just gives coords for a pub and a description of proceedings! by the way, if anyone would like to come its on the 29th June at the Woolpack Stoke Mandeville, and yes there will be a cache! Don't be put off by the name, all are welcome not just bucks cachers and I would love to meet anyone who can get there! nothing special, just a few drinks and a cache icon_wink.gif coords are: N 51° 47.066 W 000° 47.418 cheers, Dan.

Its just a hunt for a lunch box, why be so serious!?! badgerslayer.gif

Obviously we cant see the cache page but email the admin who refused you and point out that you said you were placing a cache.

Maybe they read the word meet and just stopped there.

You know how it is, we all read stuff on here but sometimes only see what we want to see and ignore the rest.

Have boots and GPSr, will cache for fun!

Does that mean that you can't organise an event cache in the UK like this???

or this??

and that is just a sample of US event caches in June. Looking into July and there is this hummdinger....

Who turned your cache down Dan?? It won't be an auto-bot. It will have been a real person and they should have identified themselves.

Why are beer and pizza type event caches allowed in the USA but not in the UK??

It seems to me that this event cache:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=67608

is nothing more than a meeting in a pub and that was approved without problem.

MMMMmmmmmmmmmm....

This is the definition of an Event Cache according to geocaching.com

Event Cache

There have been many cases where geocachers want to meet up at a location to share experiences and make new friends. Event geocaches are locations to meet, and after the meeting these caches are archived.

It seems like your cache fits in well enough with that. If you can't get it approved, email Groundspeak and ask for an explanation.

You miss the point Chris. What I want to know is why do UK cache events have to have a cache hunt element and US ones don't??

As I remember things, this was a requirement that was arbitrarily added by UK cache approvers and not the US ones. See this thread.

We seem to getting towards a situation where all that we talk about is what you CAN'T do. No locationless caches approved, no virtuals and now we can't even have a pie and a pint with fellow geocachers without the 'powers that be' taking a swipe at things.

Taking the Northern Cache Bash as an example, all Dan has to do is to hide a box round the corner from the pub with the co-ordinates in it and it meets this "new criteria" just fine. A pointless hoop to jump through. Why bother?

I usually do icon_eek.gif

It just seems strange that this one met the new criteria and yet still wasn't approved.. You are of course right - it seems that another set of rules are being applied for the UK (or maybe it just depends on the approver).

Moss the Boss... Sorta

I have no problem at all with the Northern Cache Bash. It's a get together in a pub where like minded people will talk about geocaching (and no doubt many other things too). That meets MY criteria perfectly.

As for keeping UK standards up, are we to assume from that remark that it wasn't a US approver who turned down Dan's cache?

I resubmitted the cache with the wording about a cache being placed highlighted and a slight change to the name from Bucks Caching 1st Pub meet to Bucks Caching Pub Meet Multi! lets see if it gets allowed this time?!? The note I got from geocaching.com was a little strange, it said it was from an automated emailer bot but at the bottom it said:

'Message:

I'm sorry if this is unexpected.. but to be an event there has to be caching

involved. Just saying meet here is not an event.'

It just seemed strange because there was going to be caching? anyway, this wasn't ment as mud slinging, I just wanted to know if I had missed anything obvious because I have never held an event cache before. Hopefully this time it will go through ok. Also I did recieve an email asking If by automated bot I ment Moss.T - no I most definatly didnt, as far as I am aware this came from an automated bot as stated on the email, if it had been Moss I'm sure he would have taken the time to explain why under his own name. icon_biggrin.gif

Can't think of a good reason why I won't be there so 'The wife', 'George W Bush' and 'God' (but not necessarily in that order) willing, I'll see you in the pub regardless of Geocaching.Com

I't's about time Pid bought me a beer anyway.
