+Pharisee Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Just like to say thanks to Paul & Michael for arranging such an enjoyable afternoon at The Rack and Manger. It was good to be able to put faces to some of the names that have become so familiar to us over the last three months. Thanks, guys. John & Hil Quote
el10t Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Weren't there a lot of people there? My thanks to Team Blitz too - it was a good one! When's the next? Rich mobilis in mobili Quote
+Lassitude Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Nice to see so many people at the event. Sad I could not talk to everbody. Soon as that clue for the cache was mentioned everybody left like rats down a drainpipe. BTW- Is that cache part of the event cache or can it be scored as another ;-) ??? Thanks again Team Blitz! Sorry no, but when that cache get re-placed soon, then you can come & find it (again!), and log THAT cache for an extra point! Team Blitz White gravel? What white gravel? I can't see any.... heck, who cares! Quote
Seifer Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 All I can say is a few more thank-you's. Firstly Thanks to DJH for lending us the ammo box for the final cache, we will give it back, honest Also thanks to the landlords for letting us stay, eat and drink in their pub. lastly, a huge THANK-YOU to everyone who came, without you, it wouldn't have been as bigger success as it was. PS, i think this is the record for the largest number of TBs in one location, 9 at last count! Wronskian Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 A most enjoyable day, and really good to finally meet so many people and put faces to the names. Browsing through these forums will never quite be the same again. Here's to another similarly succesful event soon! Sam -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...) +The Hornet Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Like everyone else I would like to express my thanks to Paul & Michael for organising everything. I thought it went off very well. Nice to meet everyone and even nicer to dispose of all those boxes - thanks all! Finally thanks to Pid for introducing Lost in Space and I to their unique form of caching _________________________________________________________ It is better to regret something you did, rather than to regret something you didn't do. +Kouros Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Thanks Team Blitz... it was great to put names to faces (or should that be the other way around...?) Anyway, it was fun, though a little over-whelming. Maybe the next meet will hit triple figures? ------ An it harm none, do what ye will Quote
MCL Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 No, not the pastry. First-In-Last-Out. I claim the quite unintentional merit of being the first to arrive (followed a minute later by Pharisee) and the last to leave (jointly with SimonG and The Merman) Arrived at 11:55, left at 20:30 Over 8 hours in some of the best company I have enjoyed for a long time. Thanks to Team Blitz for organising it. On the way home I was thinking it would be quite possible for me to organise a similar meet in Milton Keynes maybe sometime during the summer, which might allow some of the more northern-based cachers to attend as well while still not being out of reach of anyone turning up today. If we did it in the summer, maybe we could do a barbecue instead of having to have pub lunches (not that there is anything wrong with pub lunches!) Anyway, summer is a way off yet, so time for everyone to mull it over. I know that one or two others have also said they will organise meets in the months to come. As far as I am concerned, the more the merrier! I will try and attend them all. No trees were harmed during the production of this posting, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.... Quote
+Chris n Maria Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Well done Team Blitz a great event which we really enjoyed. Nice to see faces old and new. Wronskian Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 About 9:45 this morning, Ken Bruce said hello to all the geocachers who met up in Winchester at the weekend, and thanked Paul & Michael Blitz for organising it. I missed the name of the person who sent in the message to Radio 2, though! Anyone owning up? Sam -- Seek and ye shall find (tupperware, ammo boxes, bears, free ISP CDs...) Quote
+John Stead Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Before Ken Bruce's program Wogan had a bit of a joke at 8.30 at the expense of Geocachers - well I think that's what he thought it was! Quote

Seifer Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 Having just had time to count up, i think that there were in attendance: 14 TBs(add fetch, Naomi Bear, Gillkicker Bear, Autograph hound and Buzz to my previous list) 25 Teams and I recieved 49 "Log, watchlist notification" emails in the space of about 8 hours! DJH It is so nice to hear that everyone enjoyed themselves. What started off as an event where I expected something like 20 to 30 people, we ended up filling up the place with about 50! The funny thing is that there wasn't a HUGE amount to organise... maybe I'll list things here, so others know what to remember to do for a simple social event: 1) work out a date 2) find a pub & speak the the landlord: by getting others to book lunches for themsleves removes a great hassle! But the landlord finds it helpful, as he knows how many to cater for 3) remember to book lunch for yourself 4) post a message with details 5) think about placing a local cache, to force everyone to get some fresh air 6) do you want an "event calling card"? 7) Get your son to volunteer to do a silly quiz 8) steal your son's TVCR to show geocaching video Heck, there wasn't much more.... so now you all know how SIMPLE it is, I hope there will be LOTS of socials going on! (in many ways, the most difficult bit is finding a suitable pub, that is pleasant, family friendly, big enough etc) Paul Team Blitz White gravel? What white gravel? +Nawtcher Posted January 26, 2003 Posted January 26, 2003 Many thanks to Paul, Michael and family and to everyone else I got to meet at the event. A nicer bunch of people I couldn't hope to socialise with and I look forward to meeting you again. Maybe we can pursuade some of you to take a holiday to Cornwall in the summer when we host a meet there probably in June. Quote
+The Merman Posted January 26, 2003 Posted January 26, 2003 I am coming down to Cornwall in July (I mentioned it to Mike and Mandy at the bash) and would hope that I can get to meet up with some of you for A. a drink and B. some caching? I will let you know my dates closer to the time. I will be there with my girlfriend who is American and although she loves caching, it is the scenery that knocks her socks off. adrianjohn Posted January 26, 2003 Posted January 26, 2003 I should have done this earlier, but getting on the computer since we went broadband connection has been limited by my sons hogging it. However my thanks to Paul and Michael for doing a grand job and making it a great day. Also thanks Paul your directions back to the A34 via Crawley were perfect although I almost missed the sharp right turn by the pond! Quote

+paul.blitz Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 As promised at the Xmas social, the cache which I placed for the event will be placed in another location, in the Winchester area, this coming Saturday. All the same contents will be in it. The provisional name for it is "Under-Water?" (no, not in a ditch this time!!!!). The more astute of you will notice that it's in a different ammo box (I borrowed the previous one: this one is a "Hornet special", painted black - looks nice, even if I say it myself!). paul Team Blitz White gravel?
