Sneaky way to earn a souvenir

Is anyone else getting cachers, who didn’t attend an event or visit the earthcache, posting an attended log on events or logging a find on an earthcache on earthcache day (things that earn souvenirs)?  I get at least one each year on my CITO events or on earthcache day.  Unbelievably the cachers are from outside the US and their caching activity on that day is all overseas!  Unbelievable!  I understand they still earn the souvenir even if the log is deleted.  😬🤔

I really don't understand why people do this. Souvenirs have literally no value.

This happens because some challenges requires finds from abroad or, for example,  on a specific date. Not for souvenirs, I guess.

 

Just keep deleting bogus finds.

They are needed for some challenges. Ofc, it's called a 'challenge' for a reason, and armchair logging caches you didn't find is not challenging.

It happens - it makes you doubt that players stats generally. Who knows what else they're doing to 'improve' their stats.....

The OP stated the cachers then delete the logs - I would think on this occasion it is for the souvenir - there are challenges where you have to get X amount of souvenirs and that is one way of doing it - I have seen some log 20 caches in 20 countries in one day - all logs deleted either by themsleves or the COs but the souvenirs remain. It is a fault of the system that this can be done and the souvenirs do not get deleted along with the log - easy way to rack up 200 souvenirs without leaving your sitting room.

Doing something like that would never enter my mind. In reality they are only cheating themselves. If I don’t earn it I don’t want it.
