Guest lathama
When yiou scroll down to find caches in the UK there is now a topic for "Scotland UK" - why have this when thje UK covers England, Scotland, Wales, NR Irland?????? It sounds crazy to me almost like someone is trying to undermine the organisation by being stupid. Quote Link to comment
Guest JasonW
No idea - drop a note to contact@geocaching.com - get them to shift it to the right place - it's probably because the cache approvers are North American and don't understand European geography Quote Link to comment
Guest JasonW
ds on to another question do we need to split up the UK into regions so you can have a look at whats in a particular area of the UK (like I'm unlikely to be interested in SE England unless I happen to be going there - which I strive to avoid if at all possible) - I know it can be done by putting in a Lat/Long and searching on that, but it's not terribly intuitive. Of course splitting the country up into regions is bound to upset some as they become classified as being in the North, Midlands, etc Anyone else got any thoughts on this ? Quote Link to comment
Guest Yomper
Yes, I think we should split it up. Now that the cache count is rising, it might make things easier. How about:- England Scotland Wales Surrey Yomp Quote Link to comment
Guest The Scout
I think we should split into regions but not untill the cache count grows a little more. I was tempted to log my cache "Tomb of the Warrior" in the Wales region but I was afraid it might be overlooked by some one living in the South West or the Midlands. One of the problems with leaving it a while, would the people who have already logged under the broad title of UK want their cache to be regionalized? Guest The Northumbrian
I think we should keep it all as UK, I live 40 miles from the scots border and if I was looking at a cache page for say Newcastle area , Under nearest caches would it list any for scotland? Probably not I always thought that England Scotland and Wales WERE the United kingdom KEEP THE UNION ------------------ The Northumbrian Quote Link to comment
Guest theGophers
Here Here. I live close to wales so I would want them included in my nearest caches. Quote Link to comment
Guest McDeHack
Why not some how enter the cache sites in countys. It would save time looking at each site to determine how far the site is from ones home. Quote Link to comment
Guest DoomSlayer
I doubt the boys in red, white and blue know what the county's are over here .. I know I don't For me I like the UK setup .. it's such a small place anyway ... why split it up ? Quote Link to comment
Guest JasonW
McDeHack if you set yourself up with a shortcut to the "Seek A Cache" results page with your home Lat/Long in then it shows you the caches in order of distance from that point - I use [url = this one for me - the Lat/Long isn't spot on, but then again 100 miles North is way more than 100 driving miles anyway..... For my two eurocents worth, I think splitting it up on the same line as the US & Canada would be a spectacularly bad idea for all the reasons stated above, although I notice that the boys in NZ are thinking of doing just that (I can see why you'd want to do it for the North & South Islands there but that's it not into counties/regions/whatever-they-call-thems). Guest Moss Trooper
Where's George, nearly home was a one off and has been Archived. It was a microcache with a WheresGeorge.com dollar bill in it. I know cos I got to it first Moss [This message has been edited by Moss Trooper (edited 17 October 2001).] Quote Link to comment
Guest JasonW
It's what he said (points to MT).... thus illustrating the limitations of the otherwise brilliant (or should that be brillig) map. The other thing that's missing from it is any zoom functionality - some areas just have waaaaaaaay too many in to be able to resolve them. Of course if there hadn't been countless caches within spitting distance then it wouldn't be an issue either Quote Link to comment
Guest JasonW
Oh and the errant cache is now in the UK and the "Scotland UK" and "Wales UK" have been removed from the report form Quote Link to comment

Guest JasonW
Well I haven' noticed any anguished howls of protest following it's removal. Quote Link to comment
