this thing is so screwed up

Recommended Posts

So... I enter in the name of the city where I'm looking for caches. That's screwy -often taking me to an assumed cache and not the town/city I typed in or often just taking me to my hometown caches. Once I do find the listing for the caches where I'm going I used to click "MAP" to have the caches displayed on a map. Not anymore. I can't find the maps. "MAP" used to be right there on the page. Not anymore. So I tried  pressing the three little dots to see  if I could  get the maps from there. That worked for a bit, if it didn't take me back to my hometown caches.  Now when I try clicking those three little dots  all I get is" placed on info" whatever the heck that means.

Hi Luckless.

Just saw your post and tried a few things out.

From the main page I entered "New York" in the "Search the millions of geocaches worldwide" filter and was given 7 alternatives - accepted New York City, New York and got 661 results. Clicking on "Map geocaches", I got a map with with the listed (661) geocaches. Where is the problem?

I have also found the normal 'map geocaches' as per the image above has disappeared. I am using a laptop not a smart phone so don't know if that makes a difference but it was always there before :) However I have just found that if I click 'play' on the home page rather than typing my search location into the search bar on the home page, it gives me the option to view by map.

Well heck they could have told me they were no longer allowing basic users to utilize that feature.

If they told you that, they would have told you wrong.  Basic users are still allowed to utilize Browse and Search maps, just not the convenience of List functionality.

Great find!  The Browse Map (and then the Search Map) are available in the Play menu.

Maybe it's more a bug than a (lack of) feature. :ninja:

Perhaps the "Map Geocaches" button is attached to the "Add To List" button, so they are removed or appear together.  I seem to remember certain conveniences that Premium Members pay to access being available after some site update a few years ago.  Maybe this feature/bug is the result of streamlining the site.  But I may be mis-remembering.

But I'm pretty sure if TPTB wanted to have a "Map Geocaches" button in any particular place, it could be done.

I have recently experienced a problem when browsing for caches in any location whether it’s my home location or looking elsewhere. For some reason the caches are now displayed as a list, as shown. I have lost the function to display as shown in rows as per above users MoleandToad and Kunarion. This has only happened recently, but is really annoying as I’ve always found it much easier to read when the data is shown in rows. It also enables you to sort on any of the rows, although I only tend to use the found date for sorting. Your help would be appreciated. Incidentally this happens if I’m using a laptop or my iPad.

Check your Prefernces in your Profile Settings and see if "Display search results directly on map" has been checked:

Thanks for your help barefootjeff, yes it was checked, I have just unchecked and it’s working again. Funnily enough I was looking in preferences this morning, but ignored that setting, I assumed it was correct. Very much appreciated
