Guest DoomSlayer
OK A lot has been published around here of late that's quite heated ... I've been sitting in the wings watching with chagrin and at times some amusement ... I also feel like I'm right in the middle of all this having invited a few fellow GeoRogues around on a Friday nite ... having said that I saw no harm in it and still don't .. I do however think that I should have extended the offer further afield but since I had spoken with a couple of people on the phone (the ones that found my first ever cache) it made it more real and personable ... and for me I like meeting people ... especially others of like minded interests ... plus the flare up happened on the day we were all meeting up and I didn't really know too much about it until I returned home that evening ... at which point I thought extending the invite was too late and I wasn't sure it would feature as highly as it did since we were all just getting together for a meal, a few drinks, to put faces to the names and to discuss GeoCaching ... boy! was I wrong ... To this end I am going to extend an invite to all and sundry to attend The First Ever UK Wide GeoRogues Meet at my Coffee & Fish cache (and no I'm not promoting it - it just happens that I'm new to this and it's just there - you don't even need to sign the log if you don't think it's a good one) ... if nothing else I will definitely find out what I should and shouldn't be doing as a newcomer ... I may also enjoy watching events unfold as GeoCaching UK style is defined before me ... You may think First Ever UK Wide GeoRogues Meet? Huh? There's already a meet on www.georogues.com ? Well looking at it I believe that was a few GeoRogues getting together - this meet if all are up for it - and ALL are WELCOME .. will actually be the First Ever UK Wide GeoRogues Meet ... Personally at the moment I'm sitting on the fence on all of this and am more than happy to act as moderator in face to face combat (ok I say that jestingly) [ ]) ... I'm opening my home to all you guys and girls so please have some nice thoughts towards me about that ... If you are any sort of GeoRogue you'll find my Coffee & Fish cache a piece of cake so I'm not going to give you any more information and have even removed the photo from the website ... So my suggestion is Saturday 27th October 2001 at 6pm ... this gives us all time to travel from all over the UK ... having been as far as Livingston and driven back in 6.5 hours I don't think 6pm is an unreasonable hour ... this date also gives the majority of people time to plan for that weekend and also perhaps stop along the way and look at some caches *ahem* ... It also gives me a chance to meet some of the people who inspired me to enter into the sport ... MossTrooper & JasonW being two of them [ ] That's my reasons and the way I feel and my effort towards resolving these issues .. other than that ... I want to have FUN !! Oh and if you can let me know numbers ASAP that would be good as I need to warn the pub !! [ ] [This message has been edited by DoomSlayer (edited 15 October 2001).] Quote Link to comment
Guest JasonW
Make it somewhere closer than 321.6 miles to me and I might consider it - assuming that roads are perfectly straight & clear I don't fancy a 4½ hour drive there, and a 4½ hour drive back and I'm by no means the furthest North of us (don't suggest the train as I don't have a mortgage facility available for the exorbitant prices charged by GNER, and I refuse to travel in a pressurised tin can in seats way too small for a person of my height). (Steps back & waits for Lemdip (and no doubt others that I've forgotten about in Scotland)to put in an appearance). Believe it or not, some of us do have lives outside of Geocaching too - and there is no way a fortnight is enough notice (certainly not for me anyway - I'm "booked up" all weekends until at least Christmas now - the price of having a life eh ? Guest DoomSlayer
quote:Originally posted by JasonW:Make it somewhere closer than 321.6 miles to me and I might consider itB] Morning Jason ! I'm amazed you have time for GeoCaching being booked out until Christmas ?!!! I finally meet someone who can say that and means it !! *clarification - said inquisitively rather than annoyingly* ... myself I guess I am getting very in to the sport and so am putting a lot of effort and time in to it ... having said that I can understand if you can't make my invitation ... I know some people will not be able to ... [ ] Apologies if my home is not a convenient location for eveyone but it's the best I can do ... I'm originally from New Zealand so the thought of travelling for 400 plus miles seems quite insignificant to me ... we used to travel to Wellington some weekends for lunch and then turn around and go home ... a nice way to see my homeland [ ] *sighs & reminisces*... if only GeoCaching was around back then ... I sometimes forget that such travel here causes people to shy away ... if it's a case of a bed for the night then I'm happy to extend the offer if people bring there own sleeping bags ... but I must warn you the floorboards are a tad hard without an airbed ... hmmm I do have 2 of those as well so first come first served !! [ ] Actually I'd imagine half of you would simply sleep on the floorboards being the hardy bunch we are ... Antipodean style so to speak ... It'd be a shame not to meet you Jason after all the chats' online through the forum have helped me immensely and been great fun but if you can't make it then perhaps another time ... [ ] The offer still stands to anyone that thinks they can make it !! Can anyone traveling from Scotland bring me down some tablet? [ ] Absolutely love the stuff ... used to eat it all the time when I lived in Glasgow ... [This message has been edited by DoomSlayer (edited 15 October 2001).] Quote Link to comment
Guest theGophers
I must agree with JasonW that to travell all the way down south is a bit much. When I first found out about GeoCaching I thought that this looks like a bit of fun and if it gets me out of the house and town to view some rural panoramic sceanery then all the better. If we meet some fellow Cachers on the hunt then that too is a bonus but I am doing this for fun and I too have a life. You are amazed that he has time for GeoCaching being booked up until christmas! This is supposed to be a fun hobby, since I started if I can manage one a week then I think myself lucky. Anyway good luck with the meet, and pass on my apologies. Maybe you could print out one of our pictures, bring it down to the pub and raise a glass to us? ;-) Quote Link to comment

Guest DoomSlayer
I've had very little interest in the idea of a GeoRoguesUK meet on Saturday 27th October so I've decided that we should postpone it, for a while at least !! I will let you all know when another weekend becomes free !! Quote Link to comment
