Guest The Northumbrian
Have been reading the logs on the Vindolanda cache as I will go after the F&M is clear of the area, Correct me if you think what I say is out of order But to be fair to the countryside I think its a bad Idea to put caches in stone walls as quite a lot of thase walls have been in place for hundreds of years and are becoming unstable, It would be bad for the hobby if we were to read in a newspaper that a wall had fallen on someone due to people damaging it by looking for a cache, and we would be looked upon in the same way as the metal detectorists of the 70's (COUNTRYSIDE VANDALS)as what the press called them Feel free to scold me if your views are different to mine, But lets not get ourselves a bad name just as we are starting out on a brill pastime ------------------ The Northumbrian Quote Link to comment
Guest Moss Trooper
Hi Northumbrian.. Totally agree.. Jason was going to try and access the cache at the week end and I told him that if it looked like the wall had been damaged by cachers then to remove the cache. The cache actually was in a previously damaged section of wall that was easily accessable and covered by one brown stone, it was not buried deep in side as you may think. But as for your well found concern I will remove the cache anyway if Jason has not and archive the Cache page.. I hope this is a lesson for all. Moss Quote Link to comment
