Guest brucebridges
s, I will be visiting the UK with a friend starting this Thursday. I'd like to find at least one cache while there but since I don't really know my way around, was wondering if I can get a suggestion. We will be driving from London to Scotland for a two day stay, then down to Manchester, Liverpool and hopefully Ireland, then back to london for 5 days. I'd like to either go to a location that is in the path that I've described, or something that will take me to a place that I absolutely must see while in the region. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I leave in two days so hopefully this request isn't too late! Thanks! bb Quote Link to comment
Guest timp
Hi Bruce, Hope you enjoy your trip to the UK. The following are taken from the pages shown if you do a search for UK caches on the site. All of the caches placed by Robin and June Lovelock are just west of London around the junction of the M25 and M3. "Prime Meridian Cache" by Hokies is at/near the Greenwich Observatory in London. "London's First cache: A walk in the park" by Bagpuss "Atop a breezy meadow" by welshie We have not visited any of these so we cannot offer any advice. We have visited others, but they are further west and south of London. That is a list of some of them, Im sure that there are many many more in/around London. Apologies to those I've missed. Perhaps others who know the area north will suggest caches in their area you might visit. It is a shame that you were not going west from London because we have placed a hitch-hiker in a cache near Winchester which is about 65 miles west. We would like the hitch hiker to make it out of the UK. Here's a BIG plug. Winchester is a great place to visit. :-) Good luck and happy hunting Tim & June (Winchester) tim@ecsweb.co.uk Quote Link to comment

Guest JasonW
Never mind the caching, if you drive to Scotland from London, strongly suggest you use the M1/A1 combination as far as Morpeth and then follow the "Northumberland Coastal Route" (signposted from the A1/A197 intersection) - this takes you off the main road and up the coast (admittedly past a cache of mine ) and back out to the A1 further up. There are quite a number of caches in Northumberland and northern County Durham - if you do a "closest caches" check using Newcastle-upon-Tyne (55°N 1.5°W is close enough to make little difference) as your datum, you won't go far wrong for the North-East of England. However be aware that large parts of the west of our region are under Foot & Mouth Disease restrictions (not harmful to human health not to be confused with "Hand, Foot & Mouth disease" which is harmful to human health) Quote Link to comment

Guest timp
Hi again Bruce, Just a thought in passing, I would be interested in your comments about the differences of caching in the UK compared to USA. Maybe others would as well. If you would rather reply to this privately then use my e-mail tim@ecsweb.co.uk If you would rather not reply, thats OK. Enjoy yourself Tim Quote Link to comment
Guest brucebridges
As Everybody know by now, we have had 4 passenger jets crash in several places in the USA. We are watching the news right now and are stunned at the horror unfolding. All flights have been canceled across the country. At this point, I don't know if I will be coming to your country after all. This is like living a nightmare. bb Quote Link to comment
Guest timp
Hi Bruce, This is a very sad time for you and your countrymen. I am sure that all of us in this group extend our sincere sympathies to you all. We hope that if you don't make it on Thursday, you will very soon. Good luck, Tim & June (Winchester) Quote Link to comment
Guest brucebridges
Thank you for your kind words Tim. As of now the government is stating that all flights will resume by noon tomorrow. I am determined to continue with my trip. I do not want the (insert the most graphic and offensive term you feel appropriate) that were responsible to feel that they can stop me and others from continuing with our lives. I will post on this board tomorrow night if my trip is still on and I get to visit your beautiful country. bb Quote Link to comment

Guest brucebridges
Hi guys, Well, the bags are packed and the airports are shut down. They report that they expect the flights to resume tomorrow and I have been assured of a seat. If all goes well I will be in London on the morning of the 14th! Ironically, with the enormous security I expect to be put in place, this will probably be the safest flight in history. Thanks to everybody for the suggestions and support. bb Quote Link to comment
Guest jstead
Like the other posts above I am horrified by what happened on Tuesday and feel so sorry for those directly and indirectly affected. Hope your trip comes off none the less - if round Liverpool try Lifeboat Sands and/or Sankey Waters, very different but neither too far from the road. Good Luck! ------------------ John Stead Quote Link to comment
