+51MarLin Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 When I select "View Larger Map" on a Geocache page I get a blank webpage. The same thing happens if I use "View Map" under the Play drop down menu. It also happens if I try to view a list map. I assume this is because I'm still running on Windows 7. Is this correct? Not very happy about this. Quote
+janrei_ Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 I would rather suspect a browser problem. It could also be that some connections are being blocked. Maybe it is enough to open the map page and press Ctrl + F5. Quote
+51MarLin Posted November 29, 2023 Author Posted November 29, 2023 I've contacted Geocaching.com and received a reply. They are saying it's Windows 7, which if it is, then it's because of lazy programming on their end. (I've been programming since 1970). Other sites like GaiaGPS.com, AllTrails.com and TrailForks.com all work fine in my browser. Actually I've tried 3 different browsers and they all doing the same thing. Every day I flush cache and cookies from my browsers, so I know that's not part of the issue. It's just a little frustrating. Quote
+barefootjeff Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 I have two old Windows 7 PCs, both running the latest version of Firefox. On one, the maps work fine, on the other, the older of the two, they're coming up blank. I suspect it might be a problem with the underlying graphics hardware (or drivers) more than Windows 7 per se. The older machine probably dates from around 2010 so it's pretty ancient by technology standards. 1 Quote

I tried to find the latest drivers for my Intel i7-3770 HD 4000 Graphics card and installed what I could find from Intel. But it did not make any difference. I do have a Windows 10 computer, it's just a lot of work to transfer and set up. But I may have to do that just for this. Quote
+m0bean Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 Have you tried using the Browse Map (Bottom of the Play menu), rather than the search map? I find that this one works a lot better on older or slower computers. Quote
+Viajero Perdido Posted November 29, 2023 Posted November 29, 2023 As I recall, those maps require WebGL to be installed and working. My old PC (12yo at the time) didn't have the hardware for it, and those maps worked quite badly as a result. You can check it here: https://get.webgl.org/ Quote

Yes, that did work. but this whole thing started because I use the "Map List" option in my Lists and that's NOT working. 17 minutes ago, Viajero Perdido said: As I recall, those maps require WebGL to be installed and working. +51MarLin Posted November 29, 2023 Author Posted November 29, 2023 One interesting (maybe) thing to note is that when I go to view a map, either from my lists or from "View Map" on the drop down I get a totally blank page. Even the green bar across the top is missing, it's not just the map. Quote
+51MarLin Posted November 29, 2023 Author Posted November 29, 2023 (edited) Well I finally figured it out. The coding for the List maps and the "View Map" was changed, while the "Browse map" is still using the old coding. The old coding used code.jquery.com to access jquery code. The new code no longer uses that, it now uses cdn.jsdelivr.net. Normally this would not be an issue, but I have Pi-hole running on a raspberrypi as my local DNS. This is a wonderful setup for blocking ADs and unwanted other stuff, but it - for whatever reason - blocked access to cdn.jsdelivr.net and this kept the maps from loading. Once I Whitelisted this site everything started working fine on my Windows 7 computer. Thanks and my apologies to everyone who tried to help! Marc Edited November 30, 2023 by 51MarLin typos 3 Quote
