Wow cool! The oldest mainland cache - if it still exists. Do you want to email the guy from caverock and ask him if he is aware of the geocaching site? I will check it out once I have my GPSR back It would be seriously cool to have this cache added. You haven't got any more of those up your sleeve have you? Especially in Canty? LOL Cheers Gav Quote Link to comment

Guest Adman
I'll email him tonight, and let him know about geocaching.com. I've also found another non geocaching.com cache on the net from Peter McKellar who placed Geocache S38°E176° on this site. It's at S38° 13.787' E176° 17.910' near Rotorua. It was placed 12 May 2000. Is this the oldest cache in NZ? Cheers Adam Quote Link to comment

Guest Nemesis
quote:Originally posted by Adman:just found Canterbury Geocache That's only 10.63 miles NE of my Rakaia River cache! Mine was placed in memory of the demise of that one, it was the South Islands first. BTW, you can step through the cache IDs to find the archived ones, a painful process however. Cheers, Donovan. You can view the archived version at http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=69. It's therefore my sad duty to inform you of it's demise. Adman, you could find this other cache of his, it's still active http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=73 Here's a link to the archived Canturbury cache by Bob C that you guys were talking about http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=74 it may have been washed away. kewlkiwi
Here's a link to the archived Canturbury cache by Bob C that you guys were talking about That was me! I dont get to check in here very often, and haven't done any other caches since that one. But, it was the very first one on the mainland, and (from memory) only the 2nd or 3rd in New Zealand. Only one person logged it before it was washed away in the big flood. The wife and I went out the next day to check and couldn't get any closer than about 100m - the Selwyn was chocker! One of these days, I'll get back into the sport! Cheers all, and keep on caching! Bob Quote Link to comment
