Loss of information during image upload

Hi

I upload a picture to my cache page, and because it is a puzzle I added information to the picture that the solver needs to find.  Apparently, during the uploading to the server, the file is changed and the details I added to the image are deleted. I tried both png and jpg and the result is the same, the image is uploaded without the information I added.  Is there a way to solve the matter other than uploading the image to another server and adding a link?

Hi.

 

Are you referring to the EXIF data?  As I recall, they started stripping that out a few years ago, because people were uploading hero shots ... at the final location of puzzle caches ... and those pictures included the coordinates ... providing a simple way to avoid solving the puzzle.

 

I think you're stuck with hosting the image on another server.  (Willing to be corrected!)

All uploaded images, regardless of file type, are now quietly converted to progressive JPEG, so anything that relies on image properties like exact RGB values or EXIF data is wrecked. The only option for puzzles like these is to host the image on an approved third party site.
