Does any know why-oh-why GC strips transparency off png and gif image formats?

Does anyone know a way I can get an image with transparent regions on a cache page (eg an html method to make white pixels of an image transparent)?

geocaching.com converts all uploaded images to progressive jpeg, and even though it leaves the original .png or .gif suffix on the files, internally they're jpeg. You'll need to use one of the approved hosting sites (see this Help Centre page) for your images to do what you want.

Is it wrong that as a professional web developer this still really gets my knickers in a twist after all these years? :tired:
