How can I retrieve a travel tag virtually which I dropped in error?

Hi, hope someone can offer some advice please. 

I had two travel bugs and left one in a cache yesterday and one today.

Unfortunately, I logged the wrong one in the yesterday's cache. I went back and added the correct one. However, I can't pick up the wrong one to move it to the cache where it physically is now as I don't have the tracking number which is on it. What is the best thing to do? Is there a way to virtually move it or should I just write a note for the cache where it physically is to say it is there but I can't log it on the website as being there?

If you don't have the code anymore, you can message the trackable owner and give them the info (what cache it is in). They can clean up the history. Or, as you say, leave notes in both caches (the one to say it's really not there, the other to say it really is).

Did you go back to the cache where you left the first one?

 

If so, and it had already been picked up, then hopefully the next cacher along will fix this by grabbing it, using the tracking code.

 

It still would not hurt to drop a note to the trackable owner to let them know what happened.

 

(I've done this more than once, so you are far from alone - this is why the "grab" function exists.)

I often take a photo of the trackable with the number showing in order to avoid this situation.  Then I can delete the photo when I do actually drop it off or pass it on.

Thanks everyone. Glad to hear it's not just me :-). I can't go back to either of the caches now so I will message the owner as per TriciaG's suggestion. Also I think I will adopt Smitherington's idea of photographing the trackable.

Absolutely.  I never post the photo and delete them when I am sure I no longer need them.
