Conversion question

I bought the softmap gps option and have it working it really makes softmap a real program now.

 

I can download my tracks and see them on the map and make tracks and send them to the gps.

 

What I need to do is get a progam that can take a gpx file like at travel by gps and be able to convert it to a ozi *.plt file to import to softmap so I can then have the route/track file in softmap to send to my gps.

 

I have tried most conversion programs but maybe I missed one.

I think you're the second person in the geocaching community to get the Option. After you had a chance to work with it for a while maybe you could add to Hard Oilers comments in this thread.

 

Can't help you with a conversion utility - I'm still transferring them via my GPS.

I've found GPSUtility http://www.gpsu.co.uk/to be useful for conversions however the .plt files it creates from .gpx aren't the ones that Softmap likes (which are OziExplorer TrackPoint Version 2.0).

 

If all else fails in trying to find convenient conversions, and if it won't upload to the GPS and download to the application, I export a track (or route or waypoint) file and look at it in Notepad to see what the format is and then use Excel to manipulate the data into the same format - then it will usually import OK.

Glad to see Softmap have now sold 2 GPS Options Actually the local dealer here says he has a hard time keeping SoftMap in stock - I assume he means they're selling well not just hard to get

mg100guy will Softmap import a .csv file? Thats what I use to import waypoints into Fugawi. I get a pocket query in .loc format, open in GeoBuddy and save as a .csv file.

The softmap will open a cvs file but that is only good for waypoints.

 

I think I will need to hard oilers way in excell or somthing and then post my tracks from other programs.

New explanation:

 

When I open the gpx file in easy gps from travel by gps and I get the waypoints at the top.

 

Then at the bttom you get the trail in routes lised at the btoom of the screen.

 

I try and upload them and my gps only takes 99 points for a route and there are alot more listed.

 

What I want to do is get the route file at the bottom and be able to convert it to a ozi.plt file to show on my map.

 

I was using the hilton side trail file.

I played around with the Hilton Falls trail file and found that EasyGPS is limited since it won't let you convert to a track and upload that to the GPSr. My Mag 315 is limited to 20x30 leg routes but will take a 1200 point track. I downloaded a trial copy of ExpertGPS and that let me open the Hilton Falls trail gpx file, create a route of the whole hike and it has the option of just uploading it as a track to the GPSr. I was then able to download it to SoftMap and got the whole trail on the map.

Nice work and glad to find away to do the converstion.

 

I wll have to do all those trails at travelbygps in 2 weeks before expert gps expires.
