carabeener
I have used GSAK for years even as a paid customer before is was made available for free. I have downloaded the pocket queries into GSAK and then sent them to my 66st. Last month it crashed my gpsr. I now get a message saying firmware updating 1%. Talked to garmin and they had me return the gpsr. They sent me a replacement which worked fine until I used GSAK to send the geocaches to the new 66st. I immediately got the same firmware updating error as before after rebooting. The device can't find any satellites or geocahes if I do a manual spell search for a cache. Any help? 1 Quote Link to comment
Atlas Cached
Please post a photo of the screen you are seeing. GSAK doesn't have any coding to affect the firmware update file on the device. I suspect another program may be loading an update file while the GPSMAP 66 is connected to your computer. Quote Link to comment
Atlas Cached
Delete the Garmin/RemoteSW folder on your 66st. Reboot. Quote Link to comment
carabeener
I deleted the RemoteSW folder and rebooted. This did clear up the firmware updating problem. However, I am still unable to find any satellites though. Quote Link to comment
Atlas Cached
What is the GPS version in the Setup > About page? Quote Link to comment
carabeener
Software Version 10.20 GPS Software Version 0.00 Quote Link to comment
Atlas Cached
Ok, please connect to computer with Garmin Express to reload required updates. If you have similar rebooting issue before update is completed, remove microSD card and try again. Quote Link to comment
carabeener
When device is first plugged in is says updates available, but after Garmin Express syncs it says device is up to date. Also, I do not have a microSD card inserted. Quote Link to comment
Atlas Cached
GPS Software still at 0.00 in Setup > About? What is EPO Status? Quote Link to comment
carabeener
GPS SW is still at 0.00. There are no satellites showing in orbit. The EPO.bin file has today's date size 63KB. Also, the firmware updating problem has returned, and the RemoteSW folder has appeared again. Quote Link to comment
Atlas Cached
Please use the information found at GPSrChive > GPSMAP 66 > Firmware to install an older firmware version, then attempt the GPS Software update again while the older firmware is installed. Quote Link to comment
carabeener
The oldest Firmware that I could get to download, and install was 9.60. Still has updating issue and no satellites found. Then I reconnected to computer and used Garmin Express to provide updates, after rebooting it is back to SW Version 10.20. Still with no satellites and firmware updating at 0 and 1 %. +Atlas Cached
Sounds like the GPS chip may be failing... Please contact Garmin and ask how they can help you. Suggest to them they may want this unit for R&D purposes. Remember, you catch more flies with Honey! Quote Link to comment
Atlas Cached
You can also continue the 'Brute Force' method of restarting the device every few minutes until perhaps one time the GPS chipset firmware update finally completes. Quote Link to comment
