I got blank pages, so I'll send my governor to be the new Ambassador to Canada. ( He should do OK, he knows all the words to 'Oh Canada')

Pretty cool. Can't wait for them to post the coord for the geocache in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. There's one that won't see a lot of traffic. But then the raiders probably won't trash it either.

Hey what's the scoop with putting caches in public access parks? Is there any sort of "etiquette" on that?

For example, what about a provincial park with hiking trails in it? Technically it's protected land but lots of people use the park everyday. Is it cool to stash a cache in a park?

There has been a ton of discussion on this point, and for the most part, it shouldn't be an issue, though it will likely vary from Park to Park.

Hold a few things close to your heart, and this is something that won't be an issue.

1. Don't damage the area, and ensure that your actions won't leave any ecological effects.

2. Cache in - Trash Out. Make sure the area is cleaner than you found it.

3. Make sure your cache includes a letter of understanding so that a park warden/ranger can read the intended purpose of the cache, and perhaps become a player!

Hope this helps?

Or you could ask the local warden/ranger before you place the cache. Of course they could say no, but if that is the case they are not going to be too happy when they find it anyways.

Approval does take time (still waiting for approval here, not a park placement, but approval is still key) but I think it is worth it in the long run.

I'm glad to see that there are places in the world with actual rangers / wardens that you can contact, but it's not always a possibility...

More often than not, all one will achieve by contacting a city department is red tape, and six months of phone messages.
