After two months it has zig-zagged 111 miles around southern Ontario and is now exactly 10 miles from home! +chris-mouse Posted October 9, 2003 Posted October 9, 2003 I suspect it has to do with differing oppinions of the best way into and out of Southern Ontario. As you head north and west, the caches seem to get few and far between for a long distance. Virtually all of the caches north of Lake Superior also seem to be the work of one or two caching groups, so there's a problem with a lack of cachers too. So, the problem is, is it better to travel through the 'caching desert' heading west by land, or would it be better hanging around near the city in hopes of hitching a ride aboard an airplane? I guess Wonderful Racer will be finding out. Quote

Your bug visited the GAGAFAP event, I seen it there and have a picture somewhere. The 2 bug I brought had no particular goad, else I was going to print out the pages. I wanted bugs heading east and left with 4 bugs, 2 I think are ok and 1 heading in wrong direction and 1 back travelling, but I have a theme related cache for this 1. I think it may be best, with winter soon to arrive that your bug stay in Southern Ontario, things tend to slow down in the Winter up North. I still go out caching, but sometimes have to wait until spring to go out and find the cache that was buried in snow and ice. I wish your bug luck in the race, I am happy that my bugs move and don't disappear. Car37 & Shnde Quote

+Algonquin Bound Posted October 22, 2003 Posted October 22, 2003 Well, I must admit to having pulled him from a cache in Hamilton, since he seemed to be heading south and I thought he should head north, taking that aforementioned land route. In retrospect, with the popularity of Westjet Vancouver flights from Hamilton, I think he might be better of in that are, skipping the long drive. On the other hand, his competitor, Tour Bus To Ontario, hasn't made it out of BC yet, either. He's close, though. Good luck with the race. Cheers! Ian. Quote

I got an email the other day asking my help in moving their bug from its current hom closer to the Quebec border before the end of the race on the 31st. A bug rescue sounds cool, but it turned out this would be a 3000+ KM round trip for me!! LOL, here's hoping they can find a local cacher to move it along. Scott :-) Quote

If there wasn't, then that is most likely the reason why it is not doing what you want it to do. I think that most people that find bugs just move them to somewhere else and don't usually check on the web page what the bug wants to do. Atleast it is moving and not just sitting on someone's desk for a couple months. I am sure it will make it home eventually. And another note, In the spring I found a bug that wanted to go to Arizona, well by luck I was going to go there in July and could have taken the bug with me, which I told the owner, but the owner didn't want me to hold onto it for a few months (I think it's a long time too), so I let him go, and it's October now and it still has not reached it's goal, whereas I could have helped it in July. So the question is, is it more important for the bug to reach it's goal or to keep moving? I am sure people here in Ontario are having fun finding and moving your bug, and I strongly feelt hat is what the sport is all about...having fun and putting smiles on peoples faces. Quote

I sent a nice laminated wallet-sized mission statement to Mr Wonderful to attach to his bug. I'm a big believer in TBugs being clearly mission-defined. More than once I've taken a bug home only to find I haven't done it any favours. Good point! Quote

I'm sure it is the problem of so many ways to leave Ontario and people thinking differently. After all, there would be nothing to stop him from heading west via the Sarnia/Windsor corridor and crossing the plains through the U.S. Or taking a flight on Westjet, or heading out from Pearson, or taking the slow road North of Superior. You see,WRB is a convertable and I never could get the top up. I also have major concerns for it's final lap entering B.C. as we neglected to provide WRB with a set of rain tires.
