SkydiverBC
I visited a CBN Survey Marker today and was not expecting what I found. A concrete pillar (formed by one of those cardboard tubes) with a stainless steel plate mounted into the concrete at the top. It stood about 5 feet high and had a threaded nipple in the middle of the plate. Can someone tell me why this would be in Campbell River (what makes us so special, its the only one on Vancouver Island) and how its used? The area is mostly surrounded by trees with a gap facing North. Any info would be appreciated. This might help http://www.geod.nrcan.gc.ca/site/987013.pdf Thank-you. I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car. Quote Link to comment
+MrGigabyte
All the information is on the CBN web page that is linked from our cache page. The stainless steel plate is used for forced centering of the tribrach. This eliminates errors associated with using a tripod and optical plumb over a ground level monument. Quote Link to comment
+Olar
Mr. Gigabyte, while on a recent cache hunt at Rattlesnake Conservation Area I ran across a circular brass marker imbedded in a rock flush with ground level. It was approx. 4" in dia and had the following markings: Topographical Survey - Ottawa #603619. Its location in the park was at the "Nelson Lookout". A search on the net got me as far as a website that required a membership of some sort. Would this be part of a series of markers related to the above or something entirely different? Cheers, Olar Quote Link to comment

Check the Toronto one and the picture , it is the west one. I won't try and find this site. gm100guy http://members.rogers.com/gm100guy/cachepage.htm Quote Link to comment
