CBN Survey Marker

I visited a CBN Survey Marker today and was not expecting what I found. A concrete pillar (formed by one of those cardboard tubes) with a stainless steel plate mounted into the concrete at the top. It stood about 5 feet high and had a threaded nipple in the middle of the plate. Can someone tell me why this would be in Campbell River (what makes us so special, its the only one on Vancouver Island) and how its used? The area is mostly surrounded by trees with a gap facing North. Any info would be appreciated. This might help http://www.geod.nrcan.gc.ca/site/987013.pdf

Thank-you. icon_biggrin.gif

Mr. Gigabyte, while on a recent cache hunt at Rattlesnake Conservation Area I ran across a circular brass marker imbedded in a rock flush with ground level. It was approx. 4" in dia and had the following markings: Topographical Survey - Ottawa #603619. Its location in the park was at the "Nelson Lookout". A search on the net got me as far as a website that required a membership of some sort. Would this be part of a series of markers related to the above or something entirely different?

Cheers, Olar

All the information is on the CBN web page that is linked from our cache page.

Which cache page is that?
