I have just recenty come accross this interesting sport / hobby of Geocaching and I am 'rather hooked'!!!

All I need now is to Purchase a GPS unit.

Does any one have any suggestions as to which direction (no pun intended) I should be considering.

I would aslo like to be able to use it with street maps to get around in the suburbs as well, as this may help me to persuade my Wife.

Regards,

All depends on how much money you want to spend, can get units for around $200 that are suitable, to mapping units over $1000. How technical or basic do you want the unit to be. The cheaper units will be very simple with no mapping, the more money the more features. Units up at the expensive end have stored street level mapping, removable memory cards, barometers, bells and whistles... Is size important?, small fit in your shirt pocket size units can be had, though the screen may also be small. Larger units may need a pouch on your belt, but will have larger screens for easier viewing of maps. Battery consumption?, some units can last for days on a pair of AAA's, though may not be very sophisticated, a colour screen unit may chew through a couple of AA's in a few hours(depending on how its used)

The two big names are magellan http://www.thalesnavigation.com/en/, and garmin http://www.garmin.com/
