Nalyd
...don't have Geocaches? There are 192 countries in the world (today), and 177 have caches. Me being too lazy to compare these long lists, I was wondering if anyone knew which 15 countries are sans cache. Quote Link to comment
Fat Matt
I would hazard a guess and say that, first, caches in 177 countries is an over statement. Second, I would say that there are probably no caches in Algeria, Iran. Iraq, a bunch of the Eatern European 'stans and North Korea..... Quote Link to comment
bushratgh
Well, there was none in the Republic of Ghana till Sunday, 10/05/03. Go for it. b. We tend to be betrayed by destinations. The beauty is in the walking. Quote Link to comment
+Captain Morgan
The definition of "country" is rather broad in geocaching.com. For example Greenland and Faroe Islands are listed as countries, although they are just parts of Denmark. Of course they have some kind of autonomy, but they are not countries. And the same goes with several other "countries" listed. Antarctica, Isle of Man etc. Quote Link to comment
+boulist44
I would assume that it's the 15 who don't log a cache. Seriously, a good question? Quote Link to comment
+Erawan
It's too bad you can't plant virtual caches in some countries . I was in North Korea and did a virtual in Pyongyang. The politics preclude placing caches, and there aren't many whom have GPS there. Virtuals are the only way to go until the current regime lightens up and opens up. Oh, well.... Quote Link to comment
+New England n00b
Actually, I believe there ARE caches in Iraq... Servicemen and all that. Least, I remember hearing sometihng about it... may not be related to GC.com though... Quote Link to comment
+Seasider
Of course they have some kind of autonomy, but they are not countries. And the same goes with several other "countries" listed. Antarctica, Isle of Man etc. The Isle of Man is an independent island whose government dates back to just after the time when you scandinavians invaded! Contrary to popular belief it is NOT part of the UK nor is it a member of the EU (but enjoys associate status). The only connection with the UK is that Queen Elizabeth II is constitutional head of state - but this is no bar to independent statehood as the queen is also head of state of Australia, Canada etc. Small it may be but it is a country in its own right! +wray_clan
-Tuvalu -Anguilla -San Marino -St. Kitts and Nevis -Gabon ...and many more here. What I found funny is that all but one (Gabon) are smaller than my city in population, and my city isn't all that large. Edited April 3, 2004 by wray_clan Quote Link to comment
+G Force
Equatorial Guinea But as I work offshore I don't spend a lot of time on land but am trying to work out a virtual. Quote Link to comment
+hedberg
Note that several countries do have their own websites, and perhaps are not listed here. Quote Link to comment
kg4kpg
Actually, I believe there ARE caches in Iraq... Servicemen and all that. Least, I remember hearing sometihng about it... may not be related to GC.com though... There are caches in Iraq. I got one of them while I was deployed. All I searched for are on military instalations. Quote Link to comment
kg4kpg
I wonder if there are any in Iran?? I've always heard folks in Iran enjoy western culture so I imagine geocaching would be fun for them as well...as long as the secret police didn't get them. I wouldn't mind searching for one there but as a US soldier, I'm sure I probably wouldn't be very welcome. Quote Link to comment
+ZSandmann
There are 5 caches in Iran, one was found in November. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.asp...mp;x=10&y=8 Quote Link to comment
