+Seattle Seekers Posted April 25, 2002 Share Posted April 25, 2002 I am going to visit my mom in Rocklin in Late May and am planning on committing one or two day's to nothing but caching. I need advice on which caches are fairly close and fairly easy to get to. (ie. not too long of a hike or too hard to find) I'd like to get as many as possible and will have my 12 year old son with me who gets bored easily if they are too hard to find. I also have an aunt in the Orangevale area and am fairly familiar with that area so caches in that area are fine as well. I would be grateful if somebody could give me a list of caches that fit this criteria and could list the caches in the order that I should hunt for them in order to make the best time. +McIrish Posted April 26, 2002 Share Posted April 26, 2002 Below is a list from zip code 95765. Dicks Garage, Hers, His, Theirs and Twin Oaks Greenbelt are all in Rocklin. Theirs will be replaced in a few days, it was destroyed by raccoons. All of these caches are fairly easy for families to do. Dicks Garage can be a little tricky because of tree cover, but the terrain is easy. Raccoons Revenge was placed by 17 year old boys (my son and best freind) it requires climbing, but nothing more than most boys do anyhow. Ferns of Secret Ravine, Tool Time and Movie Magic (and a few others) are over near Rocky Ridge Road (Roseville Hospital) They are nice walks and very pretty areas, however there is some poison oak in the area...as a matter of fact, there is poison oak everywhere this time of year so you need to be careful. These caches are very nice and fairly easy to find. Fear is a night time cache that was recently placed. With a group it is an excellent night cache. It requires some brain power and flashlights and walkie talkies, but it is great fun for cachers. Road Trip and Red, White and Blue are in a small Loomis area park up Taylor Road. These are great caches that are fairly easy to spot, and an unusual quarry type park. Do I hear water, is a fun find in the Roseville area near Cirby. Kids would enjoy this one I am sure, however the creek has tricked everyone (almost). Mission Impossible is a toughie....it is a good one to put the kids on however if you don't mind driving around a bit. It has a matrix puzzle in the end that had many of us pulling our hair out. A big kid figured it out in the end for our team. All in all there are many good caches in our area. I would be happy to help you in any way I can. There are several cachers in our area. Orangevale has some excellent caches placed by Jose. U-Haul being one of the most inventive multi caches. Orangevale park is a great place to go. Let me know if I can be of any more help. Horsin' Around http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=5950 Nice trails and pretty flat walk most of the way. Hard Rock 1 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=5135 Terrain a bit more difficult, but it is only a little further to this one from Horsin' Around. Brandie's Booty http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=6104 Right on the edge of Citrus Heights/Orangevale, this is a neat spot for dogs, although bringing one is not necessary. An easy find on easy terrain. Acorn Grinder http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=6858 Just north of Orangevale, this is a nice park with good trails and some history, too. +MikieP Posted April 26, 2002 Share Posted April 26, 2002 I live in Fair Oaks, the town next to Orangevale, and there are more than 100 caches within 20 miles of 95628, my local Zip Code. I would suggest you enter a Zip Code for the area you are visiting, and then use the map feature of the web site and zoom in. In addition to the caches listed above there are a number of good caches to be found along the American River Parkway, including Rent's Llama series that are very accesable, plus more than a few caches near Folsom Lake and Lake Natomas. Here is a list of ones which seem interesting. Please let me know if any of these are too difficult to find or too long of a hike for marathon caching day's, so I can weed them out. I'll probably have 2 day's to work with. Also, if somebody could put these in a good order in which to find them in the least amount of time I would appreciate it. I want to start in Rocklin and work my way out.
