Find(s)

The web support people are working on it.  When a new Geocacher has found a single cache, the site may display "1 Find", and thereafter "X Finds".  It indeed would be better to use the verb "Found", but the site has used the words Find/Finds forever, and it previously could handle singular and plural "Finds".  Apparently, something major changed with the software.

On Geocaching.com, there are issues with the English language.  Maybe that's partly due to the common usage of the words "find" and "hide" as both nouns and verbs when people refer to Geocaches.  Here's a thread that mentions how strange it sounds to use the word "hide" as a noun as it applies to Geocaches.  I can't tell if TPTB don't understand English, or if they don't care, or if they simply use some words in the way that many Geocachers do.  Or are they claiming the words as new terms for the game pieces?  But it's not just an issue with those two words.  Users mention strained English throughout the site at times.  Text that somehow makes it to the official site, and it's often hard to get the text corrected.  It's a mystery why that is.

Anyway, they're working on it. :)

Are they?

I know there was the holiday season but how it is possible after a full month that a spelling mistake is so hard and complicated to correct.

You might consider the following points.

  • This typo was submitted immediately before the December holiday season, when many people in North America (where you also reside) enjoy spending time with family and friends and take vacations from work.
  • There are likely other, more pressing needs for the engineers to work on that affect site functionality.
  • This typo, while annoying, really doesn't affect anyone's ability to find, browse, or submit geocaches, making it a lower priority to fix than other submitted bugs and issues.

For someone who purportedly enjoys geocaching, you don't seem to have much patience for other players or the organization that makes it possible. Maybe 2022 can be the year where you lighten up a bit, or alternatively, opt to take a break from the forums.

Since this typo has already been submitted, and a Lackey has helpfully noted that it will be fixed, I am closing this thread.
