Maybe a true scavenger hunt with just a series of clues as to where to look next, or something like that...... Or I could just drop it like any other bug without prior notice of any kind. Not only does the winner score the uDesignit card but the runner-uppers and watchers get to score a webcam find. I'd actually enjoy sitting at the finish line waiting for the winners sometime. But here's my two cents: let the person that finds the card suggest the next challenge! Maybe the same person can't retrieve the bug more than once in a year (or once only ever!), or place it in a cache where you can only log it found once (can't go to the cache if you've logged the cache already?) This could help mix it up a bit and get some of those "unknown" cachers out of the woodwork. Since it's Yrium's first anniversary since his passing maybe it would be a good idea to start YMS #2 to mark and celebrate this annual event of remembering Yrium? (even though he is remembered all the time) Just some thoughts and my 2 cents.... Cheers and congrats J&J. Quote Link to comment
+John&Jess
Yikes! Guess I was out racing imaginary people and missed all the real fun... My real intention was to beat TT one last time . I now understand his Saturn is gone as of this morning so it wasn't a really fair challenge but an early morning email led me to believe that he had access to someone else's. Guess not! I was sitting revving my engine near the I-5 North/South entrance ramps in Mission Bay (figured that was around half way). John took his lunch a bit early sos he could be home at one to guide me in via cell phone. It went pretty smoothly except I didn't take the Sea World Drive exit and ended up having to go round the Sports Arena. I thought for sure we'd lost to TT at that point . I got to the area and sprinted out the truck. Found Flagman and asked "am I the first one here??!!" "yep" So seeing that I hadn't found this cache yet I got on it and zeroed in. Poor John, he lost me as I pulled in the parking lot so it was like "I'm turning in... I don't see a siver Saturn!!! I see a bunch of other cars and trucks though!!! I'm gonna run for it... John?, John?" Got enough cell reception to tell him I got it! Found around 1:20pm. Tom and I enjoyed sammiches and he had lemonaid but I celebrated with a beer! Really is a cool little area to check out. Lot of interesting ideas bouncing around about the Amusing Race! We'll have to think about it Thanks for the fun! ~Jess Quote Link to comment

+FlagMan
Next round I vote for a webcam deal of some sort. Flag Man and friends can set up umbrella, beer cooler, George Forman cooker, and lounges under the camera so's us ol' cowboys and others can watch. Not only does the winner score the uDesignit card but the runner-uppers and watchers get to score a webcam find. If I understand it correctly, Flag Man, you have one of the mojo 3G cell phones so set it up as the webcam site. Yeah, go ahead, you can do it. What an idea, a uDesignit drop, webcam cache, and Geocaching event all rolled into one. You're welcome. How 'bout if we just arrange to have it covered live on CNN or something?? +Team Gecko
Perhaps it is time for a short history lesson on the PALS Cards and the UDesignit Bug, for no other reason than to identify all the cards out there and to put all the UDesignit grabs and selections in one spot for easy reference. The dates for the PALS cards are based on my set of PALS cards, and I may have some of Yrium's reprints in my set, so some of the dates may not reflect the original printing of these cards. My set was printed by Yrium, but some of them may be Yrium reprints (as distinguished from the reprints I have made of these cards). Flagman's history update reminds me of the early days of searching for Yrium's Pals. Back in 2002 and 2003, unaware of this forum, I used to monitor his cache logs to discover where new cards might be placed. He only left five at a time and there were never very many of any particular card made. I recall him mentioning a limiting factor being the laminator - he would go over to his mom's place to do that tedious part of their manufacture. Getting a set of original Pals one by one became a bit of an obsession, a terifically enjoyable one of course. I finally reached that goal with #20 Jeremy at Rebus Monkey (Link) back in early 2003. One thing led to another and we were soon corresponding quite regularly about cards, caching, and of course his illness and how it limited his options for getting out for hunts with trusty friend Gromit. He loved those opportunities, as his remarkable logs continue to attest. Below is an earlier email from Yrium indicating his plans for future Pals identities, including a concept for a "Collectors Series" that he later renamed "Yrium's Fans" but never got around to pursuing. Here is the photo he requested of me to start that series. Thanks again, Flagman, for keeping the tradition going. -Gecko Dad ******* Thu, 17 Oct 2002 17:49:47 -0700 (PDT) From: "charles F simons" <yrium@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: Yrium's Pals checklist To: "Don Endicott" <dlejr@yahoo.com> Gecko Dad, Your welcome for the list. I'm very gratified to everyone thats ever picked up one of my trading cards. If you pick up #s 3, 4, 6, and 7 you will have all the cards that I've made so far. I still have some of these cards that I haven't put in a cache left so you still have an opportunity to pick them up. I'll be working on #10 this weekend featuring Gromit, then my beautiful wife Whistlestick will be #11 with my nephew superfly being #12. I'll be unlucky #13, I figured nobody else would want that number so I'll take it myself. I have people penciled in to flesh out the rest of the cards to make a full 20 in the YRIUM'S PALs sequence. I wish now that I had set my ending number a bit higher so that I wouldn't be slighting PALs I've made since I started. So after the PALs run is done then I'm thinking I'll start a new grouping called YRIUM'S COLLECTORs series featuring all the geocachers that have been picking up the cards so far. So don't be surprised in four or five months when I send you an email asking for your permission to use you on a trading card. I'll try to get out MYSTERY RANCH way this weekend. Your 1/4 mile estimate of the walk is doable. I thought from the description that it might be quite a bit longer. ttyl, --- yrium --- Edited July 10, 2005 by Team Gecko Quote Link to comment
