Silicon yValley Geocachers Society

Recommended Posts

I've lured some of my friends in other areas to begin geocaching, and several have joined local groups of geocachers.

Has anyone thought of starting a Silicon Valley Geocachers Society? I can mention of a San Francisco Bay Area Geocachers group but can't seem to find anything related specifically to the South Bay area.

I'd like to start such a group. I am envisioning a low-fuss organization ... open to any/all who want to participate. I would volunteer to create a web site that has such things as:

-- Cache of the Week

-- Cacher of the Month (except for those who lead double lives and don't want to be identified ...)

-- Stickers we can have to identify our caches as one of ours, as trade items, etc.

I could probably figure out a way to pipe in news of new caches from the geocaching.com site. Any other great ideas? Anyone want to become a charter member (first 9 of you can be on the Board of Directors with me <grin>, after that we can do it a bit more democratically).

Drop me an email: kloosley@sbcglobal.net if you'd like to talk about it ...

I've started a Yahoo Groups list to facilitate a discussion of this group. I find it easier to do Yahoo than this Geospeak forum (forgive me, I just do!) ... so if you'd like to join, go to:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/siliconvalleygeocachers/

I've set it up to require approval for joining. This is not meant to exclude anyone except spammers -- go ahead and join and I'll add you as soon as I'm on line next.

Thanks!

I think that Team Stitches On Quilts was the big proponent of the Bay Area Geocachers group, but they seem to have dropped off the face of the earth, unfortunately. icon_frown.gif

I think your idea is a good one, and I have joined your Yahoogroup. You might want to talk to MIGO, CACHE, or GGA to get some tips on starting a geocaching organization. Find out how they did it etc.

Membership is not automatic, because I don't want the spambots to join, but I'll approve you just about immediately. That list can be used to talk about anything geocache related. icon_smile.gif

The nominators of the 2 star micro said: I love this cache because the container, hide, and placement are really clever. Definitely the best micro I've ever found!

It is near San Tomas Expressway and Winchester Blvd, which I think is in Campbell, near the Los Gatos border. Go find it!

The Geocaching.com URL is: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=2b13af3d-8cb6-4b9f-b695-bbd9ffdb0896 , the waypoint is GCG391.

Congratulations Aargnzarf & Kikipopo!
