I've been reading about these white jeeps from last year and can't really figure out why everyone get's so excited about them.

They used to be very rare and difficult to find.

Now I think it's because they are a fun thing for the little kids to find!

"little kids" ????

Did you ever notice how life goes full circle? You start out in life bald with no teeth and diapers and you play with little toys and you end up the exact same way when you get really old! :D I do look forward to playing with grandchildren 10-15 years from now! :D

Do you think any caches burned in the fire today? It was in the Penasquitos area, according to what I heard on the radio.

Reports vary from 10 to 22 acres burned. The school near Park Village was evac'd. There was some concern about houses near Ragweed St. which would put it east of the park on Camino Ruiz and west of the Ranch House)

There are a couple of caches in that area. If it was little further west, PQGeoTrekkers new one might have bought it. I'll have a good view of that area from my house when I get home this evening but maybe PQMom might know more.

Edit: Apparently, the rec center was also evac'd as a precautionary measure. This makes it look as if the fire was near the ranch house.

Edit: The caches in that area are Magellen Adventure #2 and Lindenhall. The former has been missing since January and is disabled.

But Brown's parents said their son was unarmed...

Last time I checked, being in posession of projectiles (e.g. rocks) is not the same thing as being unarmed...perhaps someone's been swimming the shallow end of the gene pool?

ROFLMAO

Gotta tell a story...

Went camping out at Kitchen Creek a few years ago. Guy from La Mesa was camping across the road from us (we were on the creek side between the parking area and bridge that goes across - he was by where the host usually is). He was sitting next to his fire pit in a low chair, with a can of white gas...

...yes you can figure the rest. When the can started expanding, he picked it up, it was hot so he threw it towards the road. Unfortunatly (I think) the lid was still open and it caught fire. So as it flew through the air it left a trail of fire.

No worries. The can landed in the street so the only fire risk left was the trail of fire that was over the ground. A few shovels and some dirt fixed that proble. But geesh... I was sad to say he was from San Diego.

They got the fire out quickly but from where I saw all the emergency vehicles, PQGeoTrekkers PARK VILLAGE CACHE might have bit it, not from the fire but from the trampling.

Ms. LLOT says it's hard to tell anything at the moment because of the smoke, but she has the impression that the fire is primarily west of the park at Park Village and Camino Ruiz. If so, then PQGeoTrekker's Snake in the Grass may not have made it.

A couple of kids are suspected of starting the fire.

I thought you all would be impresssed that we were chosen to be beta testers for the new Jeep travel bug. We were surprised when the Groundspeak people contacted us. Anyone want to know how the testing is going??

Hey people . . . :anicute: Would anyone like free tickets to a movie at the Landmark Cinema this coming Tuesday night? It is a Sony Pictures documentary about the EV1, the Electric Car GM leased to people for a while.

It ran on electricity, produced no emissions and catapulted American technology to the forefront of the automotive industry. The lucky few who drove it never wanted to give it up. So why did General Motors crush its fleet of EV-1 electric vehicles in the Arizona desert? Writer/director Chris Paine chronicles the life and mysterious death of the EV-1, examining the cultural and economic ripple effects caused by its conception and how they reverberated through the halls of government and big business. Interviews with automakers, legislators, engineers, consumers, celebrities and car enthusiasts piece the complex puzzle together.

I have another "certificate" for two people.

Gee . . . I didn't know it was "controversial." I just like the opportunity to go to a free movie . . . since I can't afford to pay to see a movie. :anicute:

Ok, Miragee, I have a solution for you...

Skip the hike tonight, and find someone to carpool to Temecula with you tonight. Tonight is the first night of their summer "Park after Dark" series. Each Friday night through the summer, they set up in a different park in the community. There are crafts for the kids in the early evening, and then at dusk, they show a movie on a giant screen. Kind of a drive in, but your sitting on blankets or lawn chairs in the park. All of this is free!

Tonights feature is Nanny McPhee.

They usually have the kettle corn vendors there, so you can have popcorn with your movie too!

Then, with the hundreds of caches in the area, you can do a night run and lift a bunch of skirts, and check our local guardrails!

I think San Elijo Hills does a similar thing in their park in the center of the town square as well.

For the cost in gas of going to two "free" movies, you could join Netflix and DVDs sent to you. You could easily get 4-6 movies each month that way. Plus it's any movie you want!

Hmmm. Let's see how this would work:

You log into CacheFlix.com. One of your bookmark lists is your queue. So if you see a cache that you want to do, you click on the Add to My Queue button. Then CacheFlix sends you the top four caches on your queue (if available). You find them in your mailbox, log them and send then back (with an appropriate change in swag, coins and travel bugs.)

For puzzle caches, you'd have to send in the solution before they mailed the cache to you.

For multis, they'd mail each WP separately.

Some advantages of this system:

  • No orphan caches (CacheFlix would provide prompt maintanance of each cache and archive those that needed to be.)
  • No anonymous taking of coins and jeeps. (If the cache came back without the item, it would automatically be checked out to you.)
  • No searching for caches that don't exist. (CacheFlix would only send known good caches.)
  • When you return a cache, you'd be asked to rate it. Then, based on your ratings, CacheFlix would recommend new caches for you.
  • No ticks or foxtails stuck in your socks.

Some disadvantages:

  • You'd only get four (or whatever number your subscription allowed) at a time. Duncan! and GoBolts! wouldn't be able to spend 36 hours logging 150 caches every Friday.
  • There'd be a lot fewer cool cache critter photos.
  • You'd miss out on the experience of ape-walking for a mile up a drain pipe.
  • No more skirt lifters (Oh, wait. This one is in the wrong list...)

Is it fairly easy to hear the movie?

Sorry, it's too late now, but I'll respond in case anyone is interested in future weeks events.

Tonight was the first night of this season, and both kids were under the weather so we missed it. In past years, they project the movie on a screen that is at least 20' across. They also have a very large sound system, so you can hear pretty well.

We usually do the same type of event at our church once or twice a year. Last year, we had a huge stack of speakers, and 4 very large sub-woofers. You could hear, (or feel), the rumble a long, long way off! It was pretty cool.
