Hmmm. I might be interested in trying one of those. More info please.

His name is Fred. Call him, at (619) 562-6046.

Make sure to tell him that I told you to ask for

a senior discount even though you're just a kid.

He's a golfer and he only used the 60CSx trying

to improve his golf game. Go figure. His best

golf bag heave was thirty-seven feet into a pond.

If that's not enough he's a photographer and

amatuer image editor ... you know what that sort

of person is like I'm quite sure. O yeah, if you

wind up going over to his place make sure to have

him ride you around in his golf cart. Also make

sure to meet his lovely bride Eva.

Sounds like you can also get a deal on an Oregon

from Jodi but Oregons are only for recluses.

When Jodi "hates" something she has a way of

taking care of the problem; you know, like

WWOTOIB wise.

Done! I'm getting excited about my potential upgrade ... or perhaps just another tool for my geo-arsenal. You always seem to have a way of blessing my socks off, ol' buddy! I'm glad I have something in the works to show my deep appreciation (and respect) to you properly. Yeah, it's been in the works for quite some time now ... but I have persevered! I'm sure you'll be proud of this lil' city slicker. Well, at least I'd hope so .... hmmm. I should make sure, I reckon.

I wonder if Jodi might be willing to check out my uh ... surprise! She would prolly know if you'd like it, right? Hmmm. What'd I do with her number ...

O my, yes, I was just going to wish her a happy birthday when

I saw your reminder. Ain't that ol' gal th' sweetest thang?

Truth is I think the world of Jodi and do wish her happiness

on her birthday. How lucky we Geocachers are to have people

like Jodi as a friend.

Jodi and I have more in common than most of you realize; you

see, Jodi is my mother but she holds her age really well don't

y' think?

Happy Birthday mom!

Love y'.

Ah hah! That might explain some of the images that have been posted recently over in the "This Just In" thread...

I'd like to point out ... hahahahaha ... to point out that I

maintain very high social and quality standards for the images

I post. Hee-hee-hee, snark ... point out, I love it.

Each and every image posted offers a finely-tuned insight into

the notable traits and/or behaviors of the subject or subjects

featured in an image. Ten years of careful observation surely

can't be all that wrong when it comes to active San Diego County

Geocachers.

Rather than medication I'm actually driven by inspirations that

come to me in the wee hours of night when my pillow whispers to

me. Well, you know, that and a whole lot of pork-fat in my diet.

Baked or boiled or in a stew!

Say Officer Krupke, please hear what I say ...

My ma took in washin' and my pa went away.

Say...aren't the photo lyrics from Bye, Bye, Birdie whereas Office Krupke was in Westside Story? (Neither of which starred Shirley Temple...)

No matter. I took my inspiration from a different source entirely, namely the "Birthday Dirge" (Sung to the tune of "The Volga Boatmen")

Chorus: Happy Birthday! <thud!> Happy Birthday! <thud!>

(repeat after each verse)

1. Death, destruction, and despair

People dying everywhere

2. When you've reached the age you are

Your demise cannot be far

3. We love children, yes we do

Baked or boiled or in a stew.

4. Birthdays come but once a year

Marking time as Death draws near

5. May your deeds with sword and axe

Equal those with sheep and yaks

6. May the candles on your cake

Burn like cities in your wake.

7. Now another year has passed

Don't look back, Death's gaining fast!

etc., etc.

James,

Have you ever thought of becoming a Wickipedia docent?

Thanks very much for the dirge lyrics, I'll hum along

whilst on the trail after the latest hides start pop

corning up on those unkissed ridgelines. Danged Duncan!

has already started ... so where did the lyrics "Here I go

again" come from James, wise guy.

Still and all that dirge sounds very like something that

Joyce wrote ... sure it wasn't from his Odyssey?

Here's another chapter to my Thirsty-Ladies story ... first

I Geocached with five lovely ladies, met Lulu499 along the

trail, and then drove home to receive Barrie and Denice who

dropped by for a delightful visit.

Counting my sweet bride that's nine lovely ladies in a single

day.

Now I'm not sure about the song-lyrics but I will say that it

was a day where everything was comin' up roses for me.

It's the "sometimes" part that's makes the whole thang

In watching the news this AM we saw a story about a guy who flew his small plane around the world twice, but also noticed atleast part of Team Reid in the photos they showed of him visiting at Gillespie field. It was fairly early and admittedly it was a story that grabbed our attention, so we may have gotten this wrong, but thought it worthy to question if there was indeed a geocache on this guys plane.

Team Reid's nephew Connor was there for the landing. He's taking lesson and flies out of Gillespie field. Sort of like a flier with the most hours and a flier who has the least hours at the field.

Yer fan,

Barrie

Barry,

Sorry, hate to disappoint you, I misplaced the decimal

point ...should be only 2.345567 Liked me. Truth is

I'm pretty happy with that Facebook Like-count ... just

one off from Pi more or less. If I'm Liked by you then

I can do circular calculations with it. You know, more

or less.

By th' way, how are you feeling about being the proud

owner of a Garmin 60CSx? Here's a funny story that

pertains to your transaction ... Fred, the fellow that

offered the unit, dropped by my place to pick up your

$200.00. When he arrived I was on the rooftop of my

house with a crew of roofers there to rework a roofing

problem.

Looking down at Fred I withdrew the folded pack of ten

twenty-dollar bills from my wallet and tossed it off

of the roof toward Fred, in a slight westerly breeze

mind you.

The twenties deployed one at a time to become a

squadron of spinning Maple-leafish helicopters, fluttering

along above Fred's outstretched arms. Credit to Fred, at

his age he let not a single twenty hit the ground. He had

a lot to say while scrambling for the money but I didn't

catch all of it.

The crew of roofers watched and laughed heartily. Once

Fred had all of your twenties clutched in his hand he

shouted up to the roofing crew "Be here on Fridays ...

Harmon always throws money from his rooftop but only

on Fridays."

My hope is that Fred and Jodi never meet one another

and start sharing stories about my behavior. Furthermore

this truthful tale has nothing whatever to do with Shirley

Temple as Dorothy of Oz fame.

It was a pleasure for me to bring seller and buyer together

and hope for your continued pleasure with your new GPS

receiver. Wouldn't it be remarkable if I had been able to

deliver the unit to you in the way Fred received the cash?

Your pal,

Harmon

O please, not for this curmudgeon.

Sweet ol' Harmon

SD Rowdies

Harmon, ol' buddy ... I ain't one bit surprised to learn that 2,345,567 people "like" you  . Shoot, who could blame em', right? Why ... I think I'm gonna go back onto Facebook right now and add myself to that one! Not sure how I missed that, but I'm gonna go find it!

Yer fan,

Barrie

aka: boysnbarrie

It was a pleasure for me to bring seller and buyer together

and hope for your continued pleasure with your new GPS

receiver. Wouldn't it be remarkable if I had been able to

deliver the unit to you in the way Fred received the money?

Your pal,

Harmon

Wow, that sure is a coincidence! I just ate a nice piece of lemon meringue :o pi a few minutes ago. It was real yummy ... almost as good as PUD.

Regarding the new 60CSx, I've been practicing every day, sometimes more than once a day. I reckon I'd be doing a LOT better if I'd read the manual that came with it ... but I've been too busy working on my getting better. So far, my golf game hasn't really improved much at all, and the folks at the pee wee golf course don't seem to understand why I'm fiddling with it at all. I tried to explain, even told them about Fred, but they acted like they didn't know him at all. Those folks aren't very helpful, to be honest, but I'm persevering!

I sure wish you wudda taken some pictures documenting this transaction. Frankly, I'm a wee bit surprised you didn't at least get a shot of Fred scrambling for the twenties. Left your camera inside, did ya? I hate when that happens. Next time you see Fred, let him know I'm VERY happy with the GPS ... and go ahead and throw him some more twenties on Friday. Take pictures this time!

Thanks for all your help, Harmon. I really appreciate all you did, and I've got just the thing to thank you properly. It's almost ready ... I'm just waiting for one more special delivery. Whoops, I hope I'm not spilling any beans!

Oh wow! Thank you James!! Now I can read the manaul via my iPhone from where ever I am. Soon I'll be doing it just like all you pros!

I'm really looking forward to doing it better. I'm about to do it on the Strand, so I'll have to read those 100+ manual pages with my 2x3 inch screen later in the day.

If you are going to reading on your iPhone, maybe you'll want the Quick Reference Guide instead...

Hello All, I wanted to let you all know that I released a Wherigo cartridge playable in Balboa Park! It's not a geocache yet, just the game. It's called-

"Remix:A Fremont Fairy Tale San Diego" My link

It is a copy of one that was built by J2B2 commissioned by Groundspeak back when Wherigo got started. So the landmarks in the game will not be the exact landmark I have programmed it to lead you to but they will be decent analogs.

My hope is that this might ignite more of an interest in the Wherigo platform and encourage others to build, like "Lets Look Over Thayer" has done with "Science Mission" (Which I still have to get)

So please give it a try and I hope you have fun with it.

Hello all, well I am relatively new to geocacheing. My son and I have been doing it for about a year and a half (with time off for deployments), however I am retired from the Navy and have more time to play with. I hope to meet fellow cachers in the San Diego area, and learn from the masters. My son and I made an attempt at placing a cache which ended miserably do to bad neighbors, but we are collecting items for a small ammo can sized cache this summer. As I am on retirement leave and Job hunting and going to college (online), my days are free so if anyone has time to teach a young pup the tricks drop me an email secretnavy@gmail.com. Thanks and hope to meet you out there.

P.S. I have a Travel Bug Decal on my Jeep so keep an eye out for me.
