Yes, today is indeed my birthday ... 76 years old and

still have a body temperature that's above ambient.

Thank you all for happy wishes. Got a busy day ahead

of me ... grampa attends granddaughter's water polo

game in the morning, dancing in the afternoon, and then

dinner with friends in the evening.

Happy birthday to Andrew of course and special thanks

to my beleaguered pal Sue. Let it be known that Sue

was innocent of the slashing incident, you know, sort of.

Weird to have a birthday association with Tom and Andrew.

What is there about the teens of December?

My 76th is starting off a tad rough ... 3.5 hours at the DMV,

a terrible cold and sore throat, and having a problem setting

up a new PDA.

Here's the funny part ... on my 76th birthday I received a nice,

square, hand-addressed envelope with no return address. Of

course I expected it to be a birthday card. On opening the

envelope I saw a card imprinted with a stunning panorama of

far-away mountains with golden clouds and a sinking sun.

Across the image was a line of text ... "Cremation Services."

How cruel was that?

You gotta look at the bright side...since your birthday, no one has sliced any of your appendages, no photoshopped images with bag hats and donut goggles have appeared on the forums, and Jodi hasn't tried to kill you....

Thank you James, your encouragement means a lot to me.

You, of all people, are qualified to instruct about seeing the

bright side of a situation.

At this moment I'm trying to unscrew my screwup made as

I ordered Cachemate for a mint-condition used pocket PC

that I ordered. ... an unallowed character in the device ID

as it were ... suggested by the device itself. Had to drill down

into smittyware.com until I ran across a refund and reorder

option. One hope drives me forward ... that I will be able to

read Cachemate screens without having to crawl into a dark

and dank sewer culvert as I must with my old Tungsten E2.

Also I do believe that I've found the cure for a bad cold and

sore throat. Trouble is that my supply of Hershey Kisses is

running low as I grapple with the Device ID problem. There

are only three Kisses on my snack plate at this, oops, two at

this moment.

It's always something,

Hi San Diego,

Does anyone know the cachecouple RickandJudy? http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=d6cc29f4-2a37-47f9-9a18-e4767e006188

They took one of my geocoins (just like 8 other coins!) in june 2010 and after a promise to drop my coin soon in october, there is no activity and their emailadres is invalid now :(

Don't know them, newbies it seems. Maybe the holiday season

has preoccupied them. Best to send an email inquiry directly

to them.

Chuck B sent me a pdf from a Powerpoint presentation with these slides in it. I converted them to jpg's and uploaded them to SmugMug. This presentation is for the Army and other military branches and highlights the concerns for our armed forces in using phones with cameras that geo-tag your location in the photos. But it is also something to be careful with for all of us. Just be aware that when you upload a photo taken on your phone there is a good chance that anyone with access to that photo can determine from where it was taken. Click on the link, below, to access the slides.

Memories fade ... no problem with that because at my

age I won't last all-that long anyway.

Funny how things work out, my stepdad was remembered

by neighbors as the old guy in the rocking chair in

his garage wearing a Stetson hat, wearing cowboy boots,

smoking a cigar, and drinking Wild Turkey.

For me it's becoming "What was that old guy's name that

kept using the Geocaching Forum when everybody else went

away to that can't-live-without social-networking

sensation called Facebook?"

Thank you Harmon for making me smile with your birthday wishes! I look on here all the time, but my computer has decided that it doesn't know who I am, so I have

Janie dear,

Now I feel all better ... I'm so glad that

you check on us old-tyme, behind-the-times

people now and then.

So what's up with your computerator? Did

mean ol' Splashman slap a password on your

personal user account? Hmm, maybe he also

set up a password on his own user account.

That would be a bad sign so if that's what

took place then you need to reign him in

right away ... sometimes a mate will go

feral on y' if y' don't watch out.

Can't imagine that happening for I know

first-hand that you can straighten a man

out lickety-split even without a trick

knife like another gal-pal I know, not to

mention her name.

Sweet ol' Harmon
